Rangers to beat Union Saint-Gilloise
Rangers fell to a 2-0 loss to Union last week in a disappointing outing in Belgium which could leave their Champions League hopes in tatters. Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men were outclassed by the side that only won promotion to the Belgian Pro League in 2020-21, securing a 2nd-placed finish in their return season to the top-flight.
But this is Rangers we are talking about. Taking scalps against the likes of Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and Braga last season, the Glaswegian giants are set to lock horns with the Belgian minnows.
Having failed to win just five of their last 15 home ties in Europe – with their only failures coming against highly reputable sides such as Benfica, Lyon and Dortmund, the Ibrox-based side will be roared on by a 50,000-strong home support in a bid to reclaim the tie and advance to the playoff round. At 7/10, it almost seems too good to be true.
Accrington Stanley to beat Tranmere Rovers
Accrington Stanley have made a superb start to their League One campaign with a home draw against Charlton on the opening day followed by a late win over Shrewsbury to leave the east Lancashire side in the playoffs.
Resolute at home, John Coleman’s men won 12 of their 23 home games last season, a superb return for the budget that they have in comparison to the rest of the teams in the division.
And coming up against a side in the division below, they will be huge favourites to see Tranmere off to advance to the next round – a great choice at 1/1.
Bolton Wanderers to beat Salford City
These two Greater Manchester sides have suffered opposite fortunes over the last decade; this time ten years ago, Bolton had only just been relegated to the Championship whilst Salford were stuck in mid-table in the Northern Premier League Division One North.
Of course, financial upturns and downfalls have had a huge part to say in their fortunes but with Bolton having achieved promotion in 2020-21, they have started the current season in League One brightly with an unbeaten start to the season.
In what could be classed as a northern Manchester derby between the two, Wanderers represent great value at 9/10 odds to beat the Ammies.
Forest Green Rovers to beat Leyton Orient
Forest Green are another side who had started the season well in League One by beating Bristol Rovers away from home, although they lost 2-1 to Ipswich at the weekend.
Having dominated League Two last season, they will face an O’s side who are yet to concede this season under Richie Wellens.
But with some fourth-tier prowess under their belts after four solid seasons in the bottom step of the EFL, 9/10 is again great value to add to your bet slip.
Norwich City to beat Birmingham City
Many tipped Norwich to be in the promotion hunt this term, an easy presumption given that they have won the league on their last two visits to the division following relegation from the Premier League.
But with just one point from two games, that may be a rockier road than first thought. Birmingham on the other hand have started brightly with four points from their opening two games, and relegation fears have ever so slightly been alleviated at St. Andrews.
Yet with Norwich’s squad depth proving to be much stronger than the Blues’, they will still be able to field a strong side for the visit of the midlands men – and with Birmingham potentially keeping their main men fit for a long, gruelling season in the Championship, Norwich should go onto your accumulator at 3/5.
