Reasons for this Weekend’s Football Tips

Two games apiece from League Two and the National League comprise four of the five selections in this Saturday accumulator prediction, with Cheltenham and Colchester facing struggling opposition in the fourth tier. Promotion-seeking Barrow and Yeovil in the league below also host lower table teams while in-form Scottish Championship leaders Dundee United will hope to claim another three points at the expense of Arbroath.

 

Cheltenham vs Morecambe Betting Tip – Cheltenham win.

With just three League Two defeats suffered since the beginning of September, it could have been expected that Cheltenham would be higher in the table than their current eighth position but five draws earned from ten previous league games is typical of their season to date. Yet the Robins have won their last two fixtures at Whaddon Road against lower table clubs and now face struggling Morecambe at the venue. The Shrimps won at Walsall in midweek after their ‘keeper saved a first-half penalty, but they had lost five successive league games on the road before that win and they could suffer another away defeat.

 

Cambridge vs Colchester Betting Tip – Colchester win.

Just one point earned from six League Two matches this year will be a concern for Cambridge especially after suffering a 4-0 midweek home defeat by Salford. Fifteen goals conceded in those games will be additional worry ahead of this home fixture with a Colchester team unbeaten in league action since mid-October. The visitors have drawn several recent matches but a 3-1 home win against Swindon on Tuesday evening, earned via two late goals, will have further boosted confidence in the ranks. An away win is likely.

 

Barrow vs Torquay Betting Tip – Barrow win.

Two successive draws earned against useful opposition has helped Barrow maintain their status as National League leaders and they remain unbeaten in league action since losing 4-2 at Torquay back in late October. The Cumbrians were reduced to ten players just before the interval in that match and now renew rivalry with the Gulls. After registering that victory, the visitors won their next two games before losing seven successive fixtures. Although the recent form of Torquay has been more mixed, Barrow are expected to seal another three points.

Yeovil vs Chorley Betting Tip – Yeovil win.

It would be fair to say that National League basement team face a very difficult task in avoiding relegation to the sixth tier and just one point earned from Boxing Day onwards is not a good sign. The Magpies now face the long journey to Yeovil with the hosts aiming to maintain their promotion challenge, and they have been beaten just once at Huish Park in league action since late October. Although the Glovers are winless in three league fixtures, they should claim maximum points from this contest.

 

Dundee United vs Arbroath Betting Tip – Dundee United win.

Despite their midweek 4-2 cup defeat at Hibernian, Dundee United are firmly on course in their bid to secure promotion from the Scottish Championship. United have won eleven of their previous thirteen league games with the other two drawn, and they now host an Arbroath outfit which has claimed just one league win on the road since the beginning of November. The Red Lichties have experienced a mixed season to date and have already been beaten twice this season by their hosts, with another defeat likely.
