Paisley Park – Stayers Hurdle, Thursday 3.30

With 2018 Stayers Hurdle winner Penhill declared a non-runner for the 2019 renewal by trainer Willie Mullins, attention has focused on the rapidly improving Paisley Park as a potential winner of this contest. Since finishing with a storming late burst of speed to win a Grade 3 contest at Haydock back in November, the Emma Lavelle trained gelding has subsequently won both races including a 12-length triumph at Cheltenham where he beat most of his rivals for this contest. Another strong performance is expected in the Stayers Hurdle with Faugheen likely to be a serious challenger.

Native River – Cheltenham Gold Cup, Friday 3.30

Following his triumph in the 2018 Cheltenham Gold Cup, Native River has raced and been placed in two subsequent contests over inadequate distances and generally unfavourable ground. With rain now arriving, similar front-running tactics are expected from the 9-year-old gelding as he aims to ensure another stamina test. Among the more favoured horses for this race, Clan Des Obeaux has failed to win in four previous attempts at Cheltenham while 2018 RSA winner Presenting Percy has won just that single Grade 1 event over fences. Native River could repel a strong Irish challenge to claim a famous double and land our massive Cheltenham Festival lucky 15 tip this week.
