Buy – Youri Tielemans, Leicester (6.5m)

Leicester’s record signing has been handed a very tempting price to start the season. In his 12 loan appearances during the last campaign, Tielemans scored 3 times and assisted 5 more. Under Brendan Rodgers, Leicester have become a more potent attacking force, increasing their average goals scored from 1.2 to 1.7 goals per game. There are plenty of viable choices in midfield, but at 6.5m, Tielemans looks to be an exciting punt with a solid Premier League track record thus far. It may be a case of ‘wait and see’ with the Belgian international but he could well hit the ground running for Leicester once again.

Bin – Paul Pogba, Manchester United (8.5m)

The charismatic Frenchman was on fire following the appointment of then-interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. During the 13-game interim spell, Pogba netted 8 times and provided 6 assists. His form tailed off dramatically scoring just twice more and registering no assists in the final 10 games of the season. Pogba has made his inclination to leave Old Trafford public this summer, but few clubs would be able to match United’s valuation. If Pogba is to stay put, he is best avoided to start the season. Having expressed his desire to leave and ended last season in poor form, he is an expensive risk not worth taking.

Buy – Leander Dendoncker, Wolves (4.5m)

Unless you intend to start 5 midfielders week in week out, you’ll likely be looking for a 4.5m budget pick for that final midfield spot. Leander Dendoncker has far and away the highest ceiling of the choices on offer. The Belgian centre mid began his life at Molineaux out of favour, but had firmly established himself in the first XI by the turn of the year. On top of his seemingly secure place in the team, Dendocker offers some attacking threat, notching twice after February. Dendoncker averaged a shot a game in the final 8 matches of the season, whilst also providing a key pass every 2 matches. At 4.5m he is a standout option for FPL benches.

Bin – N’Golo Kanté, Chelsea (5.0m)

The adage that a great player doesn’t necessarily make for a great FPL pick has never rung truer than with N’Golo Kanté. Last season was somewhat of an exception for the World Cup winner. A more advanced role with more freedom to join attacks, allowed Kanté to pick up 4 goals and 4 assists. However, Kanté’s output is set to regress to the norm under Frank Lampard. The Blues legend is likely to play Kanté in a more familiar role, where his attacking output will be limited. There are certainly better options at 5.0m and below.

Buy – Andriy Yarmolenko, West Ham (6.0m)

Yarmolenko’s debut season with the Hammers was prematurely cut short due to serious injury early last season. The Ukrainian showed flashes of what he is capable of, scoring twice and assisting once from his limited game time. He has been returning to full fitness during pre-season and will be looking to feature in West Ham’s starting line up when the Premier League kicks off. At just 6.0m, the former Dortmund wide man could provide a lot of value if fully fit.

Bin – Leroy Sané, Manchester City, (9.5m)

The German winger has been and could be a fantastic FPL option. He has scored and assisted in double figures for each of the last two seasons despite averaging fewer than 27 games in each. At 9.5m Sané is far from cheap and takes up a valuable Man City spot in our FPL squads. If Sané was a regular starter, he would be worthy of consideration, but his place in the team is far from secure. Bayern’s renewed interest in the 23-year-old casts further doubts, with the possibility that he could leave after the start of the season. If he stays, he will no doubt be a good choice at some stage, but he is not a safe choice initially.
