Harry Maguire speaks on his Champions League triumph against Copenhagen
Dragging Manchester United to a maiden Champions League victory against Copenhagen on Tuesday night, Harry Maguire has discussed the character that he has been forced to show over the past 12 months.
Maguire overwhelmed by his Champions League winner
Coming under a huge amount of scrutiny over recent times and at the heart of what had quickly become an Old Trafford nightmare, few would have expected Maguire to be Manchester United’s hero on Tuesday night.
Powering home against Copenhagen as Erik ten Hag’s side claimed a first Champions League win of the season at the third attempt, Maguire has certainly enjoyed a recent redemption.
Clearly emotional after guiding United to their crucial 1-0 victory at Old Trafford, the England international has discussed the mental resolve that he has had to demonstrate over the past 12 months.
“I’m really proud and pleased with the way I’ve acted over the last 6-12 months.”
“I’ve been given the opportunity now and I just wanted to be here to help the team and get this club back to where it should be.”
Clearly relishing a return to ten Hag’s first-team picture, Maguire has now started in each of United’s last three appearances on either side of October’s international break.

United keep their Champions League dreams alive
Opening Tuesday’s Champions League showdown at Old Trafford knowing that nothing short of three points would have been enough, Manchester United would have simply been relieved to drag themselves over the finish line in midweek.
Getting their European adventure underway with back-to-back defeats against Bayern Munich and Galatasaray respectively, ten Hag’s side know that they can not afford any more public slip-ups.
However, with German giants Bayern Munich already holding a commanding five-point buffer at the top of the Group A table, United still have plenty of work to do.
The Red Devils will be next seen in Champions League action on November 8th when they make the trip to Copenhagen for a reverse showdown of Tuesday’s 1-0 win.
