Michael Owen Predicts his Premier League 2023/24 Finishing Positions
Former footballer turned pundit Michael Owen has predicted what the Premier League table will look like at the end of the 2023/24 season and it is fair to say he has ruffled some feathers on Social Media.
Owen is well known for causing a stir with his punditry and predictions and his end of season table has left some fans bewildered by his choices. Of course, football is all about options but Owen has predicted Newcastle to drop positions, Liverpool to get back into the Champions League and Tottenham to only manage ninth under new boss Ange Postecoglou.
Michael Owen’s Premier League Table Prediction
Here is how Owen is predicting the Premier League table to look come the end of the season.
- Manchester City
- Arsenal
- Liverpool
- Manchester United
- Chelsea
- Aston Villa
- Newcastle United
- Brighton
- Tottenham Hotspur
- Brentford
- West Ham United
- Everton
- Nottingham Forest
- Fulham
- Crystal Palace
- Burnley
- Bournemouth
- Wolverhampton Wanderers
- Sheffield United
- Luton Town
At the end of his Tweet, Michael Owen asked for people’s thoughts on his predictions and the people in the replies did not hold back! Here are some of our favourites.
“How can a strengthened Newcastle United fall 3 places? Will not happen”
“I can’t see Citeh winning the Premier League this season, I think they’ll have a treble hangover. Not sure who replaces them I think it will be a close season, Arsenal have improved their squad so I think they’ll be my favs but hopefully AVFC do a Leicester”
“Forest 13th?! I’d happily take that”
“No way are Liverpool making 3rd with a double pivot of jones and Trent with Robertson at LCB while Trent is leaving gaping holes on the RHS leaving konate exposed mate, nice bias tho”
“Villa and Brighton will burn out Newcastle 7th Spurs higher Chelsea lower”
“So Brighton and Villa playing twice a week are gonna finish high but spurs who are fixing their squad. Have no Europe are gonna finish low in the table?”
“People predicting Villa and Brighton to finish above Spurs this season are going to be in for a rude awakening.”
“Somebody has to analyse liverpool properly and explain why they are finishing so high? I’m sure they were winners on a lot of people’s list last year. They haven’t brought in any players that will change their fortunes drastically”
Owen’s Premier League 2023/24 Predictions
Following on from predicting the 1-20 finishing positions in the Premier League table, Owen went on to justify some of his selections with another series of Tweets, focusing on the title race, the race for the Champions League and how a much-changed Chelsea will fare under Pochettino.
Title Race
“I very nearly went for Arsenal to dethrone Man City. The Gunners look the real deal and have bought well. There wasn’t much between the sides in the league last season and more progress has been made by them this summer. However, City are one of the best teams we’ve ever seen and, provided they retain that desire so soon after achieving the near impossible, will be hard to beat.”
Top 4
“I’ve gone for Liverpool and Man United to finish 3rd and 4th but both have questions to answer. Neither were visually impressive on the whole last season. Liverpool have a new look midfield. They are also likely to continue to copy City and Arsenal (City have now moved on) by utilising a full back to fill the midfield at times. Could work but I loved the old Liverpool. Pressing relentlessly from the front, creative fullbacks etc. I’m nervous they are moving away from something that took them to the top. United have followed the recent trend and bought a ball playing GK. Looks a great buy. At the other end they’ve filled a vital position they’ve been crying out for. If Hojlund is a success, they could be in business.”
Chelsea and Newcastle
“I covered 3 of Chelsea’s pre season games. This is a new look team and are so hard to predict. No European football and more signings on the horizon. They could surprise a few. The opposite can be said of Newcastle. There was no fluke about last season. The only question is how they cope with the added workload of Champions League football.
Surprise Package
“My team to surprise a few this season are Aston Villa. I think they are improving rapidly and have bought well this summer. They could even sneak a top 4 finish. Brighton won’t be far off either as long as they keep their top players whereas Tottenham don’t have an amazing squad but I do rate their new manager highly. They could be the great entertainers this season. And now that Son is fully fit, he could be in for a big season in this attack-minded team.”
Relegation
“Looking further down the league, I’d expect Luton and Sheffield United to struggle. The jump from The Championship to The Premier League is huge. I’m also worried for Wolves who have sold some of their best players and not replaced them. Expect West Ham to spend most of their Declan Rice money shortly. But they need to get a move on. Brentford look solid again and I expect Sean Dyche to guide Everton to a less stressful season than last!”
