Mikel Arteta has a Premier League superstar as his top January target
With the January transfer window fast approaching on the horizon, Arsenal have reportedly identified a Premier League midfielder as their number one target.
Arsenal keen on securing a Luiz swoop
With their sights firmly set on mounting another genuine Premier League title charge this season, Mikel Arteta is keen on being active during the January transfer window.
Despite breaking the bank over the summer as they snapped up Declan Rice in a £105million move from West Ham, it appears that the former Manchester City coach is keen on adding midfield reinforcements.
With Ghana international Thomas Partey set for another lengthy stint on the sidelines, it has been suggested that Arteta has identified Douglas Luiz as his top January target.
Heavily linked with a move for the Brazil international over the summer, it appears that Arteta is keen on relighting his interest in the 25-year-old ahead of January’s transfer window.
While Aston Villa might have their sights firmly set on mounting a genuine Champions League charge this season, it has been well-publicised that Luiz was previously desperate to complete a move to north London.
🚨🔴⚪️ Arsenal are gonna look again into the midfielders market in January after Thomas injury.
Understand Douglas Luiz remains the fav option in #AFC list since long time, Arsenal love him but ambitious #AVFC want to keep Douglas. Not easy.

Arteta charged by the FA
While Arsenal might find themselves sat in pole position to punch a Champions League knockout stage ticket this season, it is no secret that the Gunners are still furious following on from their hugely controversial 1-0 loss away at Newcastle on November 4th.
Suffering a first Premier League loss of the season at St. James’ Park, Arteta launched what was a stunning verbal tirade on English officials.
Branding Anthony Gordon’s infamous winner as “embarrassing” and a “disgrace”, Arteta has been charged by the FA and looks set to face what could be a lengthy sideline ban.
🚨🔴⚪️ FA statement: “Mikel Arteta has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3.1”.
