Premier League Predictions Saturday 21st January
We get underway with Liverpool vs Chelsea at 12.30pm before four 3pm matches including the big game at the bottom which is being dubbed El Sackiko. David Moyes’ West Ham host Frank Lampard’s Everton with both managers at the top of the odds for next manager to be sacked.
Elsewhere, Bournekiuth host Nottingham Forest in another big clash towards the bottom of the league and Southampton play Aston Villa.
The 5.30pm kick-off is Crystal Palace vs Newcastle and we are tipping another Newcastle victory after their last gasp win over Fulham last week,
12:30 Liverpool vs Chelsea
Claiming what was a much-needed FA Cup boost earlier in the week thanks to a 1-0 victory away at Wolves, Liverpool will be desperate to keep up that momentum here. Once again showing some extended domestic issues since returning from the World Cup break, Jurgen Klopp’s side face an uphill battle if they’re to claim an essential top-four finish this season. However, glad to make a return to Anfield on Saturday lunchtime, the former Premier League champions still hold a fearsome reputation on Merseyside. In fact, Liverpool have lost just a single top-flight showdown on home soil since March 2021. While Chelsea might have also drawn a line under their own extended rut thanks to 1-0 win against Crystal Palace last weekend, it does not cover a nightmare start to life under Graham Potter. Likewise, without a domestic victory away from Stamford Bridge since way back on October 19th, the Blues will know that they should face a tough test at Anfield.
Prediction: Liverpool win
Best Odds: 6/7
15:00 Bournemouth vs Nottingham Forest
While Nottingham Forest might have endured a real struggle when making their Premier League return this season, Steve Cooper’s men have come roaring back in some style. Keeping the mood in their camp at a red-hot high after claiming a 2-0 win against local rivals Leicester last weekend, the one-time Swansea boss has seen his side skyrocket out of the drop zone. Now with some around the City Ground dreaming of a mid-table finish come May, Saturday’s guests should be smelling the chance to lay down another marker this weekend. Showing a string of improvements on either side of the World Cup break, Forest have lost just a single Premier League showdown since way back on October 30th. Watching Bournemouth slump to a 2-0 defeat away at Brentford last time out, the Cherries are in the midst of a woeful spell. Now at the heart of a relegation scrap, Gary O’Neil’s side have lost each of their last six domestic contests on the spin.
Prediction: Nottingham Forest double chance
Best Odds: 3/5
15:00 Leicester vs Brighton
Laying down what was a stunning marker at the Amex last weekend after cruising their way to a 3-0 romp against Liverpool, Brighton are certainly enjoying life under Roberto De Zerbi. With many in their camp now dreaming of mounting a serious European charge in 2023, Saturday’s guests have only continued to gain a string of plaudits from across the Premier League. Along with opening the New Year with a 4-1 victory away at relegation scrappers Everton, Brighton have won five of their previous seven top-flight battles. Gaining a real reputation for their free-scoring displays, De Zerbi will be calling on his high-flying squad to lay down another marker here. Although Leicester might have claimed a much-needed boost prior to the World Cup break, the Foxes have come freefalling back down to earth. Suffering a routine 2-0 loss away at Nottingham Forest last weekend, Brendan Rodgers’ side have now lost each of their last five straight Premier League appearances.
Prediction: Brighton win
Best Odds: 11/10
15:00 Southampton vs Aston Villa
While Southampton might have opened Nathan Jones’ tenure in the midst of a dreadful spell, it appears that the Saints have come roaring back. Shocking almost everyone across England on January 11th as they booked their EFL Cup semi-final ticket thanks to a 2-0 victory against Manchester City, the ex-Luton boss has now seen his side win each of their last three domestic showdowns on the bounce. Likewise, mounting a stellar comeback at Goodison Park last weekend as they eventually snatched a 2-1 victory on the road, Southampton will be desperate to lay down another marker at St. Mary’s. However, while Aston Villa might have clung to an action-packed 2-1 win at home against Leeds last time out, Unai Emery will be calling on his new squad to find some recent defensive resolve. While Saturday’s guests might have gained plenty of plaudits since appointing the one-time Arsenal boss, it should be noted that Villa have recorded just a sole domestic clean sheet since returning from the World Cup interval.
Prediction: Both teams to score
Best Odds: 5/6
15:00 West Ham vs Everton
Two sides who find themselves at the heart of their own Premier League nightmares, we have a real six-pointer on our hands this weekend. While West Ham might have enjoyed a history-making European run last season, the Hammers are now enduring a relegation scrap and David Moyes’ position is becoming more untenable by the week. Dropping into the bottom-three despite breaking the bank last summer, the ex-Manchester United boss has seen his struggling squad claim just a single point from any of their last seven Premier League outings. However, knowing that they face a must-win showdown on Saturday afternoon, Moyes’ side should be relishing Everton’s arrival. Suffering a public collapse against Southampton last weekend, the Blues are also dealing with a string of public issues behind the scenes at Goodison Park. Without a single Premier League victory to their name since October 22nd, neutrals could be treated to a cagey affair from the London Stadium.
Prediction: Draw
Best Odds: 11/4
17:30 Crystal Palace vs Newcastle
Snatching a last-gasp winner in their 1-0 victory at home against Fulham last weekend, Newcastle are enjoying what has been a famous purple patch at St. James’ Park. While Eddie Howe’s side might have just about clung to their Premier League status last season, the Magpies now have their sights set on securing a top-four finish. Only continuing to shine under the former Bournemouth boss, Saturday’s guests have suffered just a single top-flight defeat this season. Likewise, booking their spot in the semi-final of this year’s EFL Cup following a 2-0 win against Leicester, Newcastle have gained plenty of praise for their defensive resolve. Bouncing back from their FA Cup defeat against Sheffield Wednesday on January 7th, Howe’s men will be hoping to keep up their momentum here. While Crystal Palace might have snatched a stunning late equaliser against a high-flying Manchester United in midweek, Saturday’s hosts have won just one of their last eight domestic appearances on either side of the World Cup interval.
Prediction: Newcastle win
Best Odds: 19/20
Premier League Predictions Sunday 22nd January
The big game of the weekend comes at 4.30pm between Arsenal and Manchester United but before that there are two 2pm kick-offs. Leeds will have confidence after putting five past Cardiff in their midweek FA Cup replay but Brentford are also in fantastic form with Ivan Toney still playing despite the FA disciplinary action hanging over him.
Man City produced a steller comeback against Spurs on Thursday night and we’re using The Pools’ welcome offer to get a £20 free bet offer for betting on Mahrez to score anytime after his two goals in midweek.
14:00 Leeds vs Brentford
While Leeds might have extended on their FA Cup adventure at the second attempt in midweek, it doesn’t cover what has been an extended wobble at Elland Road. Last seen on top-flight duties getting hit with an action-packed 2-1 loss away at Aston Villa, Jesse Marsch does find some growing pressure on his shoulders. Still at the heart of a relegation scrap and looking over their shoulder, Sunday’s hosts have now won just a pair of their last 15 Premier League showdowns. Gaining a reputation for their struggles at the back, Leeds should face another tricky test here. With Brentford eventually breezing their way past Bournemouth thanks to a 2-0 win in west London, the Bees are enjoying what has been a remarkable flurry on either side of the World Cup interval. On a run that is highlighted by a thumping 3-1 romp against Liverpool when opening 2023, Thomas Frank’s men have not suffered a single Premier League defeat since October 23rd.
Prediction: Both teams to score
Best Odds: 7/10
14:00 Manchester City vs Wolves
Showing their Championship resolve earlier in the week as they secured that spectacular 4-2 victory against Tottenham, Manchester City will now be looking to find some stability in 2023. Still facing what appears to be an uphill battle if they’re to defend their Premier League crown this season, Pep Guardiola’s superstars will know that they can not afford any more slip-ups during the second-half of the season. Glad to see attacking talisman Erling Haaland end his mini-drought, the Sky Blues will be fully focused on avoiding another upset here. Eventually tasting FA Cup heartbreak in midweek as they suffered a 1-0 loss against Liverpool, Wolves will be more than aware that they face a monumental challenge on Sunday afternoon. While the relegation scrappers might have secured a much-needed 1-0 win against fellow strugglers West Ham last weekend, it should be noted that is the only victory that Wolves have claimed from their previous six attempts.
Prediction: Riyad Mahrez to score anytime
Best Odds: 21/10
16:30 Arsenal vs Manchester United
Watching Manchester City mount that remarkable second-half comeback against Spurs earlier in the week, Arsenal will be desperate to make an immediate response in north London. Now holding just a five-point buffer over the defending champions and knowing that they face what could a season-defining showdown on Sunday afternoon, Mikel Arteta’s side still find themselves sat in pole position to make real history this season. Suffering just a single Premier League defeat and receiving praise from across Europe, the Gunners are riding what has become a stunning wave of momentum. Although Manchester United might be enjoying their own thumping post-World Cup flurry, the Premier League heavyweights could still be haunted by their last-gasp heartbreak in midweek. Eventually having to settle for a 1-1 draw away at a downbeat Crystal Palace, Erik ten Hag’s men will be looking to prove that was nothing more than a minor blip. With all eyes falling on the Emirates this weekend, we could be treated to a mouth-watering affair.
Prediction: Both teams to score
Best Odds: 7/10
