Lyon vs Barcelona Predictions

Both of these teams head into the Champions League last 16 in good form and we should see an exciting match at the Groupama Stadium in Lyon this week. The French side sit third in the Ligue 1 table having lost just one of their last nine home matches, and Barcelona are seven points clear at the top of the La Liga table. They have stuttered slightly of late though and unuslly for them, have only scored two goals in their last three games. We’re not expecting that to continue here though given that both teams scored in all six of Lyon’s group stage games. In the group stages Lyon drew 2-2 three times, 3-3 once and beat Manchester City. Quite remarkably, they drew five of their six group games. We’re going with more goals for our Lyon vs Barcelona predictions in this game, but expect Barcelona to get the first leg lead too. They won two of their three away group matches with both teams scoring.

There is no surprise in seeing Lionel Messi at the top of the goalscorer odds for this game. He’s already found the net six times from just three starts in the Champions League this season but at odds of 8/13 he’s too short for our anytime goalscorer tips. Luis Suarez is another option but we’re actually taking a punt on a Lyon player getting his name on the scoresheet here. Former Celtic man Moussa Dembele has scored five goals in his last eight appearances for Lyon and he should be starting this match. Lyon scored plenty of goals in the group stages so we’re not expecting them to sit back in this one, even though it is against Barcelona. If Dembele does start as expected, he’s the selection for our Lyon vs Barcelona prediction on the anytime scorer market.

We’re already going for a Barca win and BTTS in our of our earlier Champions League predictions, so to continue that theme we’re going to try and predict what score the match will finish. Barca won 4-2 at Tottenham in one of the earlier group stage fixtures and they would have been well aware how important it was to win that match. They seem to be able to put on great performances when it matters most and they’ll want to ensure they are in a commanding position going into the second leg at the Nou Camp. With that in mind, we’re going for a rather adventurous 3-1 Barcelona win to complete this week’s Lyon vs Barcelona betting tips in the Champions League.
