Barnsley vs Brentford Prediction & Preview: Points shared in South Yorkshire
Barnsley vs Brentford prediction for the Championship fixture taking place tonight at Oakwell. Both these sides have been struggling for goals in recent weeks, and this represents a good opportunity for them to get back to winning ways.
The Tykes were incredibly tough to beat at home last season, and they also remained unbeaten in their opening couple of home matches this year. Can they pick up some valuable points against the goal-shy Bees?
Barnsley vs Brentford Preview: 29/09/19 Championship
Daniel Stendel couldn’t believe that his side failed to hit the back of the net against Nottingham Forest last weekend and the German looked visibly frustrated after the final whistle. The Tykes have now drawn a blank in each of their last three Championship matches, and they haven’t scored a league goal since August 24th. They created chances against Leeds two weeks ago, and they also fashioned a fair few opportunities seven days ago. They just haven’t had the rub of the green in front of goal.
Brentford’s lack of firepower is also causing concerns. Last season, the Bees were free-scoring, but they’ve netted just five times in their opening eight games. They’ve also failed to score in four of their last five Championship outings, and have scored just a solitary goal on the road. Thomas Frank’s side also struggled away from Griffin Park last season, so it’s nothing new although they looked toothless at times against Stoke last Saturday.
Can Barnsley recapture their terrific home form?
The Tykes were unstoppable at home last season, and they rarely put a foot wrong at Oakwell. They were unbeaten in all 23 games here, and conceded just 16 times. A opening day 1-0 victory over Fulham on the opening day of the campaign got them off to the perfect start although that was the last time that they tasted victory. They did pick up a point against Charlton, and they held Leeds at arms length for at 75 minutes here two weeks ago. Aside from the first-half blip against Luton, they have been very strong at home, and they are unlikely to lose this.
However, they just haven’t been able to hit the back of the net and despite playing some very good football, they’ve lacked penetration. They might have to settle for a point in this one.
Brentford won’t go down without a fight!
Although the Bees have lacked that killer instinct, they have been relatively secure at the back. Frank’s men have conceded just eight times so far, and they’ve shipped just four on the road. Only one of their matches has contained three or more goals, and they will aim to keep this tight once again.
The last couple of seasons, Brentford have not been associated with defensive solidity, but they are far more adept at the back these days, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see this game end goalless once again.
Barnsley vs Brentford Prediction
There’s very little between these sides, and it looks set to be a battle of two sides who are lacking confidence in the final third. Don’t be surprised if there is an uncomfortable amount of wayward finishing in this tie. The draw is available at 5/2 with Betfair, and that looks a superb way of playing this fixture.

Barnsley vs Brentford Goals Tip
There is unbelievable value in backing Under 2.5 Goals in this match. It would have landed in seven of Brentford’s eight matches so far this campaign, and in six of Barnsley’s eight Championship encounters. Neither side is scoring freely at the moment whilst both defences have been secure enough on recent evidence.
Under 2.5 Goals is currently available at 11/10 with Paddy Power
