World Cup Golden Glove Betting Tips and Predictions: A Look At The Favourites

World Cup Golden Glove tips

The Golden Glove award came into play just under 30 years ago and there have been some quite legendary goalkeepers who have picked it up since then, with names like Fabien Barthez, Oliver Kahn, Gianluigi Buffon, Manuel Neuer and most recently Thibaut Courtois etching their names into history.

The award, which is given based upon a player’s performance throughout the tournament, will see a number of top class keepers fight it out this winter, including both Neuer and Courtois, who could be the first to collect it twice.

As you’d expect, plenty of bookies are offering odds on the Golden Glove and it is one of the most popular World Cup betting markets. But who are the favourites?

Alisson – 4/1

He might be conceding a few in the Premier League at present, but Liverpool’s stopper is right at the top of the tree with the oddsmakers when it comes to the Golden Glove. Paddy Power has him priced at 4/1, ahead of any other player.

The Brazilians are among the favourites to win the World Cup and if the South American side does go far he’ll certainly be up there as a contender.

Thibaut Courtois – 11/2

Courtois is looking to make it back-to-back Golden Glove awards and he’s priced at 11/2 and second favourite to do it. The Belgians are going to be an interesting watch this winter. They’ve a relatively ageing side, while players like Romelu Lukaku and Eden Hazard aren’t quite the players they once were.

They should comfortably get through Group F, but the knockouts really could go either way. Some top-level performances from Courtois could help them progress, and that would certainly boost his chances of another Golden Glove.

Manuel Neuer – 6/1

Just behind Courtois is Neuer at 6/1 and the German will have to be in fine form as his nation navigates the ‘Group of Death’. Group E contains Spain, Japan and Costa Rica, so there will be no easy three points as they look to make it to the knockout stages.

Neuer is coming to the end of his career now and it’ll likely be his last major tournament, and what a way it would be to go out, becoming the first player to secure two Golden Glove titles.

Emiliano Martinez – 7/1

Argentina’s number one isn’t having the best time at present with Aston Villa, but his confidence will certainly have been boosted with the arrival of Unai Emery and their victory over Manchester United recently.

Argentina will certainly be one of the sides to watch this winter and at 7/1 Martinez could well be a dark horse for the award.

Hugo Lloris – 8/1

France have enjoyed a number of years under the stewardship of Hugo Lloris in goal and it’ll likely be another goalkeeper’s swansong this tournament on top of Neuer. Lloris is priced at 8/1 alongside Spain goalkeeper Unai Simon and it would be a great way to say goodbye to international tournament football.

The 35-year-old has almost 140 caps for France and has represented his country with distinction. A Golden Glove to accompany his World Cup winner’s medal certainly wouldn’t go amiss.

The Best of the Rest

Jordan Pickford is priced at 12/1 alongside Diogo Costa and Rui Patricio, both of whom represent Portugal, with the number one spot not quite nailed down for either at present, while Jasper Cillessen and Remko Pasveer, both of the Netherlands are priced at 16/1 for the honour.

World Cup Golden Glove Betting Tip

Brazil are blessed with two of the world’s best goalkeepers but Alisson is their first choice and he is the prediction to the World Cup Golden Glove winner. Brazil will need their shot-stopper to be on top of his game because they do focus on attacking but they can afford to do so in a group containing Serbia, Switzerland and Cameroon. It isn’t unreasonable to expect two or more clean sheets from Alisson in the group stages and then he will need to be at his best as Brazil go deeper into the competition – something he is certainly capable of doing as he has proved time and time again with Liverpool.
