The Grand National Festival continues on Friday 9th April with Ladies Day and Henry has gone through the card and picked a tip from every race.
Things get underway at 1.45pm with a Grade 3 Handicap Hurdle and there are also five races live on ITV Racing, starting with the 2.20pm Topham Chase, a Grade 1 event over 2 miles.

Aintree Day 2 Tips
1:45 Aintree
The opener on Day 2 is a very competitive handicap hurdle over 2m4f. Wilde About Oscar brings useful form to the table and is the 5/1 market leader. He carries top weight here and he’ll need a career best by a long way to be winning this.
The one for me is MASTER DEBONAIR EW (14/1). A horse who showed real promise as a bumper horse and made a really encouraging start over hurdles before losing his way. The Tizzard yard has really been struggling for form for the last 18 months and this horse has now left the Tizzard yard and joined Harry Fry. I am happy to chance the stable switch bringing him back to life at the price with the Fry yard in rude form at the moment and they have a good record round Aintree.
2:20 Aintree
The 2:20 race on Day 2 is a novice hurdle over 2m and the exciting Dusart heads the market for the Nicky Henderson team. I believe he is the best horse in this race but this is his first run since an injury setback and I’m happy to look elsewhere today from a price perspective.
The one I have landed on is ANY NEWS (11/2). Still unexposed he has shown progressive form throughout the season. He was well backed last time out but unfortunately fell 4 out in a race at Kelso. The money that came for him that day suggests the stable also think a lot of him. The spring ground here will be perfect for Any News and the Mulholland team are in decent enough form recently with 4 winners from their last 25 runners.
2:50 Aintree
The 2:50 race is a 3m Chase for the novices and 8 runners are set to go to post. Colin Tizzard pair Fiddlerontheroof and The Big Breakaway ran decent enough races behind Monkfish at Cheltenham and he’ll be hoping they can both take a further step forward here.
However, my bet of the whole week is CHANTRY HOUSE NAP (7/4). I think he should be odds on here and the 7/4-2/1 available should be mopped up. He has won 6 of his 8 starts including the Marsh Novices Chase last time out at Cheltenham over 2m4f. He is improving all the time and I think that win last time out at Cheltenham will be the making of him. This step up to 3m will bring out further improvement too in my opinion and I can’t see him beat here to be honest.
3:25 Aintree
The 3:25 race is the Marsh Chase, a Grade 1 Chase over 2m4f. It is a decent renewal with Politologue looking to follow up his win in 2018 in this contest. He is a solid yardstick and it’ll take a good one to beat him.
However, I think that good one is MASTER TOMMYTUCKER (11/2). He was second behind Dashel Drasher last time out in the Grade 1 Ascot Chase but he looked like he was coming to win the race as they approached the last. He showed us that day he doesn’t have to go from the front line a wild cat and I expect him to sit just off the pace again here. The ground was soft at Ascot last time out and I think his stamina just gave in. This quicker ground on the flat track of Aintree will be right up his street and although 10 years-old I don’t think we’ve seen the best of this horse yet.
4:05 Aintree
The jockeys get their chance for a warmup over the National fences in the Topham Chase here. A wide open contest ran over 2m5f, it is always a great spectacle.
The one I like in the race is TWO FOR GOLD EW (14/1). He’s another who’s still relatively unexposed and I get the impression he’ll relish this type of test. He is a bold front runner who jumps for fun and that is exactly what you need for a race of this nature. David Bass will be driving him into the National fences and I think he will give us a great run.
4:40 Aintree
The 4:40 race is a the Sefton Novices Hurdle ran over 3m, it looks a deep renewal and plenty of these will make decent chasers next year so get your notebooks ready.
The one for today has to be BRAVEMANSGAME NB (7/4). He is a Grade 1 winner already this season as he won the Challow Hurdle at Newbury back in January. He ran well enough in the Ballymore Novices Hurdle at Cheltenham over the 2m4f trip last time out where he finished third behind two seriously good Irish novice hurdlers. I expect this 3m trip will bring out further improvement and he sets a high standard.
5:15 Aintree
The finale on Day 2 is a wide-open handicap hurdle over 2m in which Copperless heads the market at 4/1. He bids to complete the hat-trick off a featherweight and he’s probably the right favourite.
However, I am happy to chance one at a bigger price in this and the one I’ve landed on is LEONCAVELLO EW (10/1). He ran a big race in the Martin Pipe at Cheltenham last time out and that is a race I expect to work out extremely well. Leoncavello ran a little fresh there in the early stages there and I think that just took its toll in the closing stages. He looked like he could win it turning into the straight before fading into sixth. That was still a fantastic effort and this drop back to 2m looks the right move judged on that evidence. I think Fergus Gillard will have him sitting handily which I think will be a positive in a race like this as it is hard to make ground up from off the pace on such a speed track over the minimum trip. Good ew bet.
