Wednesday’s ITV Racing Tips: York Dante Festival Day One

York tips

Hot on the heels of the Chester May Festival, ITV Racing cameras head north to York for three days’ worth of first-class action on the Knavesmire.

Although not the most valuable race on Day One, the Tattersalls Musidora Stakes will, no doubt, have a bearing on the market for the Oaks at Epsom next month. See what David is picking for his Wednesday ITV Racing tips at York and Newton Abbot below.

York

1:40 Sky Bet Race To The Ebor Jorvik Handicap

Kevin Ryan’s lightly-raced 4-year-old Throne Hall is 3lb better off for the neck he finished behind Ilaraab on the final start of his 3-year-old campaign and, with fitness on his side, looks to have every chance of reversing the form. The Kingman gelding won at Doncaster on his reappearance in March and although narrowly beaten, off a handicap mark 1lb lower than today, at Thirsk next time he at least proved his stamina for a mile and a half.

Selection: Throne Hall (8/1 with Bet365)

2:10 Churchill Tyres Handicap

North Yorkshire trainer Tim Easterby runs four, but the pick of his quartet could be recent Thirsk winner Manigordo, who still looks realistically handicapped on the best of his form for previous trainer Richard Hannon. He probably doesn’t want too much rain, but remains unexposed as an out-and-out sprinter and may be able to show his rivals a clean pair of heels.

Selection: Manigordo (14/1 with Paddy Power)

2:40 Duke Of York Clipper Logistics Stakes

Final Song won the Group 3 Nad Al Sheba Turf Sprint at Meydan in early March, but took her form to a new level when beaten just half a length by former Breeders’ Cup Sprint fourth, Extravagant Kid, in the Group 1 Al Quoz Sprint, over the same course and distance, three weeks later. She appears to have improved since dropped back to 6 furlongs and, reunited with winning jockey Frankie Dettori, looks to have bright prospects on her return to British soil.

Selection: Final Song (12/1 with Betfred)

3:10 Tattersalls Musidora Stakes

Noon Star had subsequent Lingfield Oaks Trial winner Sherbert Lemon 8¾ lengths behind in fourth when readily winning a fillies’ novice stakes race at Wetherby last month and is already a top-priced 10/1 to win the second fillies’ Classic at Epsom next month. The daughter of Galileo won on soft going as a juvenile, so should run her race regardless of the weather on the Knavesmire and can take another step forward.

Selection: Noon Star (10/3 with Bet365)

3:40 Conundrum HR Consulting Handicap

Rifleman has been raised 7lb for failing to finish at Sandown last time, which doesn’t seem altogether fair. However, in defence of the handicapper, he would have finished clear second-best, at worst, if he hadn’t swerved and unseated Ryan Moore inside the final furlong. Connections reach for first-time blinkers in an effort to prevent any further shenanigans but, if he can be kept on the straight and narrow, still looks feasibly weighted in this lesser race.

Selection: Rifleman (7/2 with Bet365)

Newton Abbot

2:25 Visit attheraces.com Handicap Hurdle

Not too much to set the pulse racing here, but seemingly an excellent opportunity for Mon Frere to make a winning handicap debut. The Pour Moi gelding finished a creditable third, beaten 14½ lengths, behind Camprond in a novices’ hurdle at Taunton in March, despite jumping less than fluently and had no trouble opening his account in a similar race last month. His opening mark looks entirely fair and he can chalk up another winner for Paul Nicholls.

Selection: Mon Frere (10/11 with Bet365)
