Saturday’s ITV Racing Tips from Goodwood, Haydock, York and the Irish 2000 Guineas
Saturday’s ITV Racing this weekend takes in four different courses (if the Curragh passes it’s morning inspection) and includes Group 1, Group 2 and Group 3 action.
Henry has run through all 10 races on the cards and picked his betting tips for each. There is also a preview of every race being shown live on ITV.
1:40 Goodwood
The opener from Goodwood live on ITV is a handicap over the 1m6f distance in which I expect them to be finishing pretty slowly given the rain we’ve had recently.
The one I like is HOCHFIELD (9/2). A previous course and distance winner is always a good place to start at this unique track and Mark Johnston has a fine record here. Hochfield was a fine third in the Chester Cup last time out and should have no problems with this ground or the trip.
1:55 Haydock
The 1:55 from Haydock is a 7f handicap contest and with the ground heavy at the time of writing with further rain in the forecast, we could see a lot of surprising results throughout the day here.
The one in this race for me is LINCOLN PARK EW (10/1). The slower the ground the better this horses chances so heavy at Haydock will be right up his street. He is a previous course and distance winner who has been running well prior to Chester last time out. He was drawn in the car park that day so I’m happy to forgive that outing.
2:10 Goodwood
The 2:10 is a listed contest in which Al Zaraqaan heads the market for the Haggas team. He was disappointing last time out but he’s still an interesting horse moving forward this season.
However, I like MAJESTIC DAWN (9/2) here. He provided the column with a 50/1 win in the Cambridgeshire last year and I think he can kick on again this season. He will have no issues on this soft ground and he may even get his own way in front today.
2:25 Haydock
We head back to Haydock for the 2:25 and it is a 2m handicap where they’ll be strung out like the washing.
The one for me is GREEN BOOK (7/2). Another horse that will have no issues with the ground and it was a career best last time out at Chester where he trounced them. A 10lb rise for that effort may not be enough to stop him following up again here.
2:40 York
We head to York next for the 2:40 race. It’s a Group 3 race for the fillies over 1m5f.
I think MIGHTY BLUE (3/1) can take this one. He won last time out at Gowran Park in a manor of a horse going places. He will get similar soft ground again today and I think he’ll prove tough to beat.
3:00 Haydock
The 3:00 race from Haydock is a 1m handicap and Roger Varian holds the market leader Raadobarg and I’m sure he’ll prove popular.
It’s not the conditions to be getting stuck into short priced favourites however so the one for me is HEADINGLEY EW (8/1). This son of Dawn Approach won well at Redcar two starts ago and the track was what beat him last time out at Goodwood where he ran a gold race for second. Back on a nice flat track I expect him to at least hit the frame at a nice each way price.
3:35 Haydock
The 3:35 race is a Group 2 over 6f known as the Sandy Lanes Stakes.
The one for me here is MUJBAR NAP (13/2). There is no better trainer of sprinters than the mighty Charlie Hills and his horse here should have a big say. He finished 8th in the Greenham on his comeback effort but I got the impression he needed the run. He now returns to his preferred slower ground and I can see him running a huge race here.
3:50 York
The 3:50 race is a compatible handicap sprint over 5f
The one I like in this is MONDAMMEJ NB (11/2). He was an unlucky third here over course and distance last time out and he was certainly the one to take out of the race moving forward. I don’t think we’ve seen the best of him yet and he has a lot more scope for improvement than some of the market rivals. The ground should hold no fears on breeding.
4:10 Haydock
The final race on ITV is the Temple Stakes over 5f. I really like Que Amoro for the season but this ground has to be a concern and I can see her being a NR on the day.
The one for today is JABBAROCKIE EW (8/1). She is a horse that has race fitness on her side and she’s been really impressive in winning her last two starts. A previous course and distance winner on soft ground I’m hopeful she can go close at rewarding each way prices.
