Horse Racing Tips: 230/1 Each-way Double from Newmarket on Thursday

Three of the five races to be shown on ITV Racing on Thursday feature single-figure fields, which rather limits each-way possibilities.

Not to worry, though, we’ve tried to look beyond the obvious and come up with a couple of selections that we believe could go well at rewarding odds and these two Newmarket tips would make a nice each-way double from the ITV live racing.

2:25 Tattersalls July Stakes

Plenty of Royal Ascot form on show in this Group 2 contest, with Eldrickjones and Project Dante, second and third in the Coventry Stakes and Norfolk Stakes, respectively, at the head of the market. However, at much longer odds, Aleezdancer has done precious little wrong in his fledgling career, albeit at a much lower level, and could be worth chancing.

Trainer Kevin Ryan has a respectable 8-43 (19%) strike rate with his juveniles on the July Course at Newmarket down the years and the fact that he sends Aleezdancer on the 380-mile round trip from Hambleton, North Yorkshire suggests the Fast Company gelding is held in high regard at home. The booking of Ryan Moore also takes the eye.

Aleezdancer is bred to be suited by further than 6 furlongs in due course but, for the time being, the rigours of the July Course, where the ability to stay the trip thoroughly is essential, should play to his strengths. Provided he’s not taken off his feet on the slightly faster ground, it’s not hard to envisage him running into a place at the very least.

3:30 Each Way Extra At bet365 Handicap

With a maximum field of 20 runners set to face the starter, this valuable ‘Heritage’ handicap presents punters with a daunting puzzle to solve. However, having made a respectable return to action, following a gelding operation, when finishing just in advance of mid-division in the Palace of Holyrood Stakes at Royal Ascot, the suggestion is Popmaster, who is the mount of Oisin Murphy. The handicapper has dropped the Gutaifan gelding 2lb for his most recent effort and, with the return to 6 furlongs on faster going also in his favour, Popmaster may be ready to open his account on turf after two narrow defeats earlier in the season. Oisin Murphy has a 30% strike rate on three-year-olds for the yard in the last five years, which certainly does his cause no harm.
