ITV Racing Tips for Saturday 10th July at Newmarket, Ascot and York
1:45 York
The 1:45 race is a 1m handicap to start proceedings and like a lot of today’s action, they are wide open affairs and there is each way value to be found.
The one I like is CHICHESTER EW (10/1). He come with a late burst to win at Carlisle last time out in a decent enough race. I think he won easier the neck margin suggested and he’s seemed to relish the fitting of cheekpieces. The strong early pace will suit and I expect him to run on and at least get amongst the placings.
2:05 Newmarket
The first race from Newmarket is a 7f handicap for the 3 year-old fillies.
My selection is KINGMANIA (9/2) for the shrewd Chris Wall team. Winner on her last three starts she’s showing great progression as a 3 year-old and I think she’s a Group horse in waiting. The way she travels in her races and picks up from off the pace will suit this track well and I expect her to run a huge race here before bigger targets await.
2:20 York
Next up we are back at York and we have Group 3 action over the 1m6f trip.
The horse I like in this race is FUJAIRA PRINCE (5/1). Still lightly raced at the age of seven he had his best season by along way last term and I am hopeful he can continue that form into 2021 here. He’s a course and distance winner as he won the Ebor which shows he certainly has a bit of class. He has a good record fresh so the break shouldn’t be an issue.
2:40 Newmarket
The 2:40 contest at Newmarket is the bet365 mile handicap and the unbeaten Royal Flare heads the market at 6/4.
I think ROYAL FLARE (13/8) will justify that favouritism here as he’s looked really good in winning both starts this season. I don’t think this is the deepest of race and the son of Dubawi is likely to continue to progress with every run and should improve past this lot.
3:00 Ascot
It’s Ascot next on this bonanza day of racing and it is the Group 2 Summer Mile Stakes featuring plenty of familiar names such as Sir Busker and Century Dream.
However, the one for me here is REGAL REALITY EW (10/1). I think he’s the value in a race where that is not much between most of the runners. He will have come on for his seasonal debut in the Queen Anne at the Royal Meeting and this is certainly a lot more realistic. He’s won a Group 3 last season at Salisbury on similar ground to today so there is no concerns there and I think he is the value play in this.
3:15 Newmarket
It’s the turn of the 2 year-old at 3:15 as we have the Group 2 Superlative Stakes over 7f here.
My selection is DHABAB NAP (9/4). He was backed like connections knew he was a really good 2 year-old when finishing an unlucky 6th in the Coventry Stakes last time out. Before that, he was an impressive debut winner that was backed up by the clock. Dettori now takes over from Havlin and I expect him to win.
3.35 Ascot
The next race from Ascot on ITV is one for the sprinters, a handicap over the minimum trip of 5f
The one for me is ONLY SPOOFING EW (11/1) who is well suited to the big field 5f sprints. He was a unlucky second in the Epsom Dash two starts back before running well again when finishing 4th last time out at the Curragh. It’s hard to see him being at the frame on current form and jockey Megan Nicholls will be bidding for another ITV winner after having one on Thursday.
3:50 Newmarket
The competitive Bunbury Cup is next up for punters and it’s 5/1 the field in a race full of potentially well handicapped horses.
The one I’ve landed on is PEROTTO (11/2). He won the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot last time out making it two wins on the bounce. He proved he stayed the mile that day which suggests this stiff finish over 7f will be ideal for him. He’s effectively on 2lb higher than his victory at Royal Ascot and given the improvement he’s shown since being stepped up in trip, that 2lb rise may not be enough to stop him again here. Buick is a positive jockey booking.
4:05 York
The 4:05 race is another very competitive handicap to add to the list. This time it’s the John Smith’s Cup over 1m2f.
The one I like is SURREY PRIDE (8/1). I was really impressed with his victory over course and distance back in May to start his season and he looked as though he’d really improved for another winter on his back. He’s been kept fresh since and I suspect this has been the target for quite a while. He has a lovely racing weight of 8’11 and I think he’ll go close.
4:25 Newmarket
The feature on the day comes up next and it is the Group 1 July Cup over 6f. Plenty of popular names feature in the line-up and it’s a great renewal of the race.
The selection here is OXTED NB (9/2) who I fancy to follow up his Royal Ascot victory for the column. He won this race last year and he won a Group 1 last time out staying on strongly over 5f. This 6f is fine for him and the combination of recent form and track form is a potent combination here. The faster the ground the better and he gets on well with jockey Ciaran Fallon who takes the ride again today.
4:40 York
The finale comes up at 4:40 and it’s another for the sprint fans over 5f.
The one for me is WINTER POWER (15/8). The ground will be no issue for this horse and even his disappointing effort last time out in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot could be good enough here. The small field will suit as he likes to boss the field and I’m sure he’ll relish this course and distance and prove tough to pass.
