1:50 York
The opener on the final day of the York Ebor Meeting is a Group 3 contest over the extended mile distance.
My selection here is REAL WORLD. I think he’s definitely a Group horse and hopefully, he can prove it today. He won the Royal Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot despite being on the wrong side of the draw before going to Newbury last time out and winning a listed contest comfortably. I think he can continue the progression he’s shown this season and win this. It’s not a very competitive Group 3 and it’ll be a disappointment was he not to win.
2:05 Sandown
The first race from Sandown on ITV comes up at 2:05 and it is the Solerio Stakes, another Group 3 race but this time over 7f.
I do think REACH FOR THE MOON will be too good for this lot. He was a great second in the Chesham Stakes before winning easily last time out at Newbury. He won that day by 4l and the second has won at York earlier this week. The form is in the book and it’ll be a shock for him to lose.
2:25 York
Next up at York is the always competitive Melrose handicap over 1m6f and this year is no different.
The one for me is DHUSHAN. He is a typical William Haggas improver who has shown strong form throughout the season in decent 1m4f races. I think he’ll improve again for this step up in trip and Tom Marquand is back on board for the first time since he’s debut run which is a positive.
2:40 Sandown
The second and final race from Sandown on ITV is the 2:40 and it is the Atalanta Stakes, a Group 3 again, this time restricted to fillies and mares over the 1m trip.
I like INDIGO GIRL NB here. She was an impressive juvenile last season but her seasonal debut was a slightly disappointing effort where she finished fourth. However, the stable were under a cloud at that time and now that the master trainer that is John Gosden is back in strong form I expect her to show us more today.
3:00 York
The 3:00 race from York is City Of York Stakes, a Group 2 race ran over 7f and it’s a pretty decent renewal of the race in my opinion.
My selection is SPACE BLUES NAP. He is comfortably the classiest horse in the race and I expect him to come on bundles for his first run in a while last time out. He finished 4th that day in the Lennon Stakes but even a repeat of that effort would see him go close here. He’s a course and distance winner here at York and conditions won’t be a problem.
3:35 York
The big one closes proceedings, the Skybet Ebor handicap over the 1m6f trip. As competitive as ever it’s a cracking each way race.
The one I like is HAMISH. He’s a Group horse in a handicap for me and it has to be eye-catching that Haggas is sending him straight here after more than a year off the track. It suggests to me he knows he’s on a Greta handicap mark and a Haggas can be trusted to have him at peak fitness for this. His last run was a 4th in the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes where he was staying on at the finish. This step up in trip won’t be an issue on that evidence and he’s a course and distance winner here at York.
