ITV Racing Tips for Saturday – Race by Race Bets from Newbury and Newcastle

Saturday’s ITV Racing comes from Newcastle and Newbury this weekend and there are a total of six live races on ITV main channel. Ant has picked out his best bet for each race along with a preview of the six races including the Ladbrokes Trophy and Fighting Fifth Hurdle.

We’re expected to get some more early season clues ahead of the 2021 Cheltenham Festival this weekend as the likes of Epatante looks to get her season off to a winning start at Newcastle.

Elsewhere, the Ladbrokes Trophy is the feature race on a competitive card at Newbury where the likes of The Conditional, Vindication and Two for Gold go to post.

1.50 Newbury

The first selection comes up in the Get Your Ladbrokes £1 Free Bet Today Handicap Hurdle which is class 2 contested over 2m 4f. This is an ultra-competitive race and a lot of the field hold a strong chance. I am going to side with TEA CLIPPER (7/2) who really impressed on his seasonal reappearance at Chepstow and gave the impression he will come on further for the run.

The selection beat a few useful sorts last time out including Sir Psycho and todays market rival flash the steel. Tea clipper looked like he was staying on well through the line and will appreciate the extra furlong today. Tom Lacey has recorded a few winners over the last 2 weeks and lets hope the yard bangs in another winner here.

 

2.05 Newcastle

The next selection comes up in Newcastle’s feature of the season The Betfair Fighting Fifth Hurdle which is a grade 1 contested over 2m. We have the Champion Hurdle winner making her season reappearance here in the shape of Epatante who on the basis of that run in March should win today but I am not in the business of tipping up 4/7 jollies.

The rejuvenated Sceau Royal (4/1) is my selection here who has looked his old self after returning to the smaller obstacles this season. The selection won well in the Welsh Champion Hurdle at Ffos Las and backed that up by winning the Elite Hurdle comfortably at Wincanton. The Alan King trained charge looks to have his old spark back after a summer wind op and I’m hoping we may hold the fitness edge over the odds-on jolly here.

 

2.25 Newbury

The Ladbrokes Committed To Safer Gambling Intermediate Hurdle is a listed event contested over 2m. The horse I like here is the Gary Moore Trained Botox Has (6/1) who I am backing to defy top weight after his impressive victory last time out at Cheltenham when beating the much talked about Allmankind comfortably.

This is the selections first step into Handicap Company and the gelding does face a stiffer task than last time out at Cheltenham. I am confident there is more to come from Botox Has and with the Moore team banging in three winners on Thursday we can be hopeful the yard is returning to form.

 

3.00 Newbury

The next race is todays feature The Ladbrokes Trophy Chase which is a grade 3 handicap contested over 3m 1f. This is about as competitive as it gets in terms of a big Saturday live ITV handicap. I’m a big fan of about 6 horses that line up here today but I will side with Kildisart (9/1) who has been knocking on the door of landing one of these big handicaps for a while now. The Ben Pauling trained 8-year-old really impressed me on his seasonal reappearance in the bet365 hurdle when finishing third behind Roksana in what was likely to be a pipe opener for today’s big race.

It is worth noting Oli Bell featured on the onthenodpodcast a few weeks ago and tipped up Two for Gold a horse he owns a share in as his charity bet.

3.15 Newcastle

The Betfair Exchange Rehearsal Handicap Chase is a listed contest ran over 2m 7f.  The enigma that is Yorkhill features here who is a four-time Grade 1 winner but has a mind of his own so cannot be backed with any confidence. Although, I do think the now Sandy Thomson trained 10 year old will piece it all together one last time and hack up at some point.

My selection here is Pym (7/2) NAP who returned to form on his seasonal reappearance beating one of my novice chasers to follow in the shape of If The Cap Fits which I believe is the stand-out form for me in this race. There has been an early market move for Whatmore here who ran a cracker last time out finishing behind Regal Encore at Ascot and will more than likely pose the main threat to the selection here.

 

3.35 Newbury

Update – this selection is a non-runner!

The final selection comes up in the Watch Racing Free Online At Ladbrokes Handicap Chase which is a class 2 contested over 2m. I am going to side with Ibleo (3/1) NB who defied a lengthy absence to only be touched off on the line at Ascot last time out by Amoola Gold who has franked the form since by going close last week up against First Flow.  I do not think Ibleo was given the best of rides last time out and I’m sure Charlie Deutsch will be looking for redemption today. The Venetia Williams yard normally comes to fruition with a few winners this time of the year so let’s hope for a bold showing from the final selection of the day here.
