Horse Racing Tips: Four to Consider for Multiple Bets at Thursday’s Meetings

Thursday’s racing comes from Market Rasen, Sedgefield and Taunton over Jumps and Chelmsford on the Flat.

Market Rasen: 3:15 Molson Coors Handicap Hurdle 2m4f139y

Near Kettering landed a gamble when defying a 10lb rise in the weights on his return to hurdles at Carlisle four weeks ago. He only won narrowly, but the runner-up, Steinkraus, franked the form when winning at Ayr later last month, so Near Kettering may not have finished winning yet. Another 6lb rise makes life more difficult, but the Medicean gelding looks one to keep on the right side on good or faster going.

Sedgefield: 1:12 Cavellos Italian Steakhouse Gin & Cocktail Bar Handicap Chase 2m3f65y

Cilluirid carries a 7lb penalty for winning, easily, over course and distance last week, but is 4lb ‘well in’ compared with future engagements and, as such, is hard to oppose. The 7-year-old has already officially improved 18lb since sent over regulation fences in August and is 2-2 over the larger obstacles at Sedgefield, so must have every chance of maintaining his 100% record.

Taunton: 2:02 Taunton Racecourse Business Club Novices’ Handicap Chase 2m2f40y

Admiral’s Sunset ran a lifeless race when stepped up to 0-150 company at Worcester in mid-September, but was, frankly, too bad to be true on that occasion. She had previously won a better race than this, off a 6lb lower mark, over the same course and distance, and a reproduction of that form may well be good enough here. She has winning form on good to firm going, off an identical handicap mark, over hurdles.

Chelmsford: 7:30 Racing Welfare Supporting Racing’s Workforce Handicap 1m

The lightly-raced 4-year-old Endured ran well in a better race than this over course and distance on his reappearance four weeks ago. The Sharmadal gelding can be expected to improve, significantly, on just his second start since August, 2020 and, reunited with Silvestre de Sousa, who won on him for previous trainer Marco Botti, can make his presence felt.
