1:50 Cheltenham
The 1:50 at Cheltenham is a a Mares Handicap Chase over the intermediate trip of 2m4f. 11 are set to go to post.
My selection here is ROSE OF ARCADIA NB (3/1). A highly regarded sort for the Tizzard team who I’m hoping will relish going over fences. She has won a point in his early days and although she’s now six, she’s still highly unexposed. She’s a bumper winner at 4, and has won over hurdles but I feel this scopey sort will show the ability she possesses now tackling fences for the first time. The early market vibes has been positive.
2:05 Bangor
The only race from Bangor on ITV comes up at 2:05 and it is a handicap hurdle ran over just shy of 3m. It’ll certainly take a fair bit of getting on the rain softened ground.
The one I’ve landed on here is HAPPY HALLOW (7/4). A good second last time out at Hexham on his seasonal return, I expect he will come on bundles for that effort. His mark is unchanged and there are no stamina concerns over this tough test of 3m. This isn’t the deepest race and I’d be surprised if he doesn’t go very close at least.
2:25 Cheltenham
The 2:25 at Cheltenham is next up and it is a decent handicap chase over 3m2f. Again, this will take plenty of getting given the stiff finish and the soft ground.
The one for me is COMMODORE (9/2). Venetia Williams can’t do a lot wrong at the moment and I’m hoping she can have another winner on ITV here. On form this horse appears to have struggled recently but he always seems to run well first time out. He has a lovely racing weight of 10’0 for this and he gets plenty of weight off his market rivals. He’s had a wind op over the summer and he should be primed for this today.
3:00 Cheltenham
The 3:00 is next and it’s a welcomed returned to the Cross Country track. Always a fun spectacle and we have a decent wide open race to look forward too here.
I really like DIESEL D’ALLIER NAP (9/2). Trainer Richard Bandey said prior to his run over these fences in November that he would come on for that effort and the December race was his main target. He jumped the last ahead that day and just got tired in the closing stages up the famous Cheltenham Hill. He should strip a lot fitter for that effort. He has a fine record over this track and a weight of 10’2 is ideal given the likely underfoot conditions.
3:35 Cheltenham
The finale on ITV Friday is a handicap hurdle over 3m. Sporting John heads the market after returning to form back over the smaller obstacles here at Cheltenham last time out.
However, I prefer the chances of AGRAPART (11/1). A classy sort back in the day I still think he’s capable at this level at the age of 10. He ran in this contest last year finishing a good 4th. He’s 3lb lower this time round and getting weight off Sporting John could hopefully be enough to rewards us a nice win in the finale.
