Tuesday Racing Tips: Best Bets at Lingfield, Leicester & Southwell

Racing at Lingfield on Tuesday is dialled down a notch, following the Winter Festival, but we’ve got our eye on a progressive course and distance winner who still looks well treated.

At Leicester, we like the chances of an improving young steeplechase and, at Southwell, a classy handicapper with plenty going for him.

Lingfield: 3:30 Betway Handicap 1m2f

Nubla is chasing a course and distance hat-trick after narrowly winning a fillies’ handicap earlier this month and, in her current mood, may well achieve it. The daughter of Brilliant Speed – who was, incidentally, a Grade 1 winner on Polytrack – took a few runs to find her form after joining Marco Botti in October, but appears to be on an upward curve.

San Agustin was limited to one, unsuccessful, attempt in the point-to-point sphere as a 4-year-old, but has made a promising start to his steeplechasing career over regulation fences. He opened his account, at the third time of asking, over course and distance six week ago and the third horse, Steel Wavem won at Ludlow last week to give that form some substance.

Topweight Edraak was a rallying fifth in the ultra-competitive Ayr Gold Cup, over 6 furlongs, last September, but is equally effective over 7 furlongs, as he demonstrated when winning at Kempton in December. The return that distance is in his favour, he appears by no means impossibly handicapped and has winning form on Tapeta.
