1:15 Cheltenham

The first race on ITV comes at 1:15 and it’s a handicap Chase over 2m4f for the mares. Agent Valdez bids to defy a 7lb penalty for an easy win last time out and heads the market at 4/1.

The one I like is BIT ON THE SIDE. Nigel Twiston-Davies teams up with his son Sam here and I expect a bold show. This horse has been very consistent with two decent wins over the summer before two decent placed efforts in the Autumn. She was a disappointing 4th last time out at Market Rasen but I believe the 3m trip was just too far for her that day. She now returns to his ideal distance and the Good to Soft ground should see here to best effect with her strong form coming on nice summer ground. Not the strongest selection of the day but she’s a nice ew bet in the opener.

1:50 Cheltenham

The Peterborough Chase is a nice addition to this card and it’s an intriguing and open renewal. Top Notch heads the market at 7/2 and will do for many but he has never won round Cheltenham which has to be a niggling concern.

The horse I like is MISTER FISHER. Mister Fisher has some strong course form to his name including when winning over course and distance last October in a 6 runner affair. He since went on to finish a good 4th in the Ryanair at the Festival and he done the best out of the horses held up that day. He was disappointing on his seasonal debut here but I don’t think he likes the hustle and bustle of a handicap and the smaller fields definitely suit him more. I think he is still unexposed only being a six year old and he can go well today in ideal conditions.

2:05 Bangor

We head to Bangor for one race and it’s a handicap hurdle with only 4 runners declared.

I think ROBIN GOLD wins this and wins it well. She was impressive last time out at Ascot and the form is reading well. She gets weights off the 3 rivals and will prove tough to beat in my book.

2:25 Cheltenham

The Unibet Handicap a chase is up next over the Gold Cup distance, 3m2f.

The one I like in this open contest is the Kerry Lee trained STORM CONTROL. He was really impressive here at Cheltenham last time out where he looked like he really improved for a step up in trip. He jumped well in the main and this bold front runner galloped right up the hill staying on strongly. I think he is still fairly unexposed at this trip and he gets a lot of weight off his market rivals. I expect him to get a nice lead again here and it’ll take a good one to pass him.

3:00 Cheltenham

A fan favourite is up next, the Cross Country Handicap Chase. Neverrushacon heads the market but has never ran to form previously at this track.

I like BEAU DU BRIZAIS (NB) here. This horse is trained by Phillip Hobbs who has had great success in the past over the cross country track with the legendary Balthazar King. This horse seemed to relish the unique circuit on his debut round it last month when finishing a gallant second behind Kingswell Theatre. He now meets this rival on 5lb better terms and I think he’ll learn from last months run over course and distance and reverse them placings here.

3:35 Cheltenham

The finale on Friday is a handicap hurdle over 3m and its another wide-open contest for punters to solve.

The one I like is ON THE BLIND SIDE (NAP). I think this horse has always had a little bit of class and I think it’s the right move from connections to stay hurdling. He won a similar contest here at Cheltenham on his latest start and I think he’ll come on for that. He finds a lot for pressure and seems to relish the Cheltenham hill which is a great combination, especially when some of his rivals will have cried enough.
