1:50 York
The opener of the York Dante Festival which is a fantastic week is a Class 2 handicap over 1m4f.
The selection here is GAASSEE (9/4) NAP. The so. If Sea The Stars has only had four career starts to date, finishing third on debut before winning his next three starts. He’s certainly the most unexposed sort in this race and I thinks he’s capable of winning this off a mark of 94. The form of his victories is working out well and the Haggas team won this last season with a similar sort in Ilaraab so they know what it takes.
2:05 Newton Abbot
The one race we have over the jumps today comes from Newton Abbot at 2:05 and it is a handicap hurdle over 2m3f.
The one for me is TULIN (11/4). The Paul Nicholls stable can’t do much wrong at present and the selection can go close on her first run since having a wind operation. She was a disappointing fifth last time out at Wincanton but she’s dropped 4lb for that effort and that run came in December when the stable were under a cloud. She shown useful form prior to that and she can resume that progression now she’s been freshened up.
2:25 York
The 2:25 from York is next up and it is a wide-open 6f handicap.
The one I’ve landed on is WOBWOBWOB (14/1) EW. Firstly, I think it will be beneficial to be drawn low here given the pace angle and the fact they often come up the far side on this sprint track when the ground is good. The selection is drawn in stall 1 so that fits the bill. He has had a pipe opener already this season finishing a solid fourth and I’m sure that was a run to put him spot on for this. A winner on this card last season in taken fashion, he operates well around the track and jockey Joanne Mason had a nice winner on Monday. Nice each-way claims.
3:00 York
The first Group race of week the comes up at 3:00 and it is the turn of the sprinters in the Group 2 Duke Of York Clipper Logistics Stakes over 6f.
The one I like is MINZAAL (7/2) NB. The Owen Burrows team are in fine form at the moment with three of their last four runners being winner. They very often run well when fresh so the fact it’s Minzaal’s first start of the season doesn’t worry me. A course and distance winner when winning the Group 2 Gimcrack Stakes in 2020 he’s also proven at this track. He’s only had 6 career starts to date so I think there’s plenty of improvement to come from him this term.
3:35 York
The 3.35 race is an Oaks trail with plenty of clues, the Group 3 Musidora Stakes for the fillies over 1m2f.
I’d expect EMILY UPJOHN (4/5) to win this. I think she will win the Oaks and I was so impressed with how she powered clear at Sandown under a hands and heels ride for Dettori. She’ll come on again for that run and I think she could well be the stable star of the Gosdens this season.
4:10 York
The finale on ITV is the 4:10 from York and it is a 7f handicap.
Samburu could be anything but he’s far too short for me here. I think MOJOMAKER (13/2) EW is another each-way bet to nothing. The David Loughnane team are in fine form at the moment and the selection is capable of running the favourite very close with William Buick booked. A consistent sort, he ran a cracker when going down a nose last time out at Doncaster. This will be his second run after a wind operation which is a positive given the stats and it’s hard to seeing him not being placed at least here.
