Friday’s ITV Racing Tips from York and Newbury (Friday 13th May 2022)

The final day of the York Dante meeting takes place on Friday 13th May and ITV are covering five more races, along with one from Newbury.

1:50 York

The opener on the third and final day is the Marygate Fillies Stakes, a 5f listed contest for the 2 year-olds.

A tricky contest but I like JUNGLE TIME (20/1) EW here for the Karl Burke stable. As green as grass on debut she finished second behind the re-opposing Carmela but that was a run full of plenty of promise. She then went one better on her next start making all to win by 2l putting that experience to good use. She likes to go forward which is a plus for a track like York and she has a lovely draw in stall 7 here.

 

2:05 Newbury

We have one race from Newbury at 2:05 and it is a 6f handicap.

I’ve landed on IBIZA ROCKS (7/2) here for the Charlie Hills team. He’s had a run to blow the cobwebs away at Newmarket where he showed well for a long way before the early keenness took its toll in the final furlong as he dropped back to 5th. I think the drop back to 6f here will suit and he’ll be staying on strongly towards the line I suspect.

 

2:25 York

It’s more listed action for the fillies, this time the Oaks Farm Stables Fillies Stakes over 7f.

It’s PERFECT NEWS (10/3) NAP for me here. The Haggas team are in great form already this week and Perfect News can hopefully add to that tally this week. Her only run this season was a fourth place behind 1000 Guineas winner Cachet and that wasn’t a bad effort at all. Haggas said she’d come on for that run so similar to Lilac Road yesterday, hopefully she’ll show a much improved performance again with that run under her belt here.

 

3:00 York

The 3:00 from York is a Class 2 handicap over 1m2f and it looks a decent contest on paper.

I suspect ROGUE BEAR (5/2) NB may prove better than this lot here. His two runs this season have been full of promise and the third place effort last time out in the Spring Cup is certainly reading well with the front two looking Group level class. I think a repeat bid will make him tough to beat here today over. Strip that should suit him well.

 

3:35 York

The feature on Day 3 is the Group 2 Yorkshire Cup for the stayers over 1m6f.

I think rank outsider THUNDEROUS (11/1) could get a soft lead here and prove tough to pass. Frannie Norton should be able to get to the front pretty easily and will try and go slow to obtain a tactical advantage. The selection put up a brave display at Chester last week finishing second behind the progressive Hamish. That was a good run and he now returns to a track where he won the Dante Stakes at previously. He can certainly give a bold sighting.

 

4:10 York

The finale on ITV is a decent handicap to end proceedings over 1m4f.

The one I’ve landed on here is AL QAREEM (11/2) EW. A consistent sort who has ran three good races already this term with two second-placed efforts and a win to his name. He likes to go forward which is a good theme for this week and I’m hoping he can put that good experience to use here and at least hit the frame. From stall 3, he should have no problem getting a handy position.
