York Ebor Festival Day 3 Tips – Friday’s Preview for the Live ITV Races

Friday’s ITV Racing from York gives us two big races – the Lonsdale Cup where Stradivarius will continue to roll back the years, and the big sprint of the week, the Nunthorpe.
Henry has been through the five live races and picked his win or each-way betting tip for each race.

1:50 York
The opener on the third day of the Ebor Meeting is a trappy handicap over 1m4f.
The one for me here is MOKTASAAB (14/1) EW. He completed an easy double on his first two starts this season at Newbury and Goodwood. He had excuses at both Epsom and Ascot on his next two starts before bouncing back to form at Goodwood last time out in a competitive handicap. He’s won here at York before and William Knight continues to has his string in fine fettle.
2:25 York
The 2:25 race is the Lonsdale Cup, a Group 2 for the stayers over 2m.
It’s TRUESHAN (2/1) for me here. There is certainly showers in the forecast which is definitely going to suit Trueshan and he’s the improving stayer whilst market rivals Stradivarius can’t be getting any better at his age. There wasn’t much between them last time out but I think Trueshan can now improve past his rival, especially if the rain falls as expected.
3:00 York
It’s more Group 2 action at 3:00 as we have the Gimcrack Stakes for the 2 year-old colts and geldings over 6f.
I’m happy to take a flyer on CHUZZLEWIT (22/1) EW here. Kevin Ryan always targets his best horses for this meeting and the selection was well fancied on debut at Redcar but he looked badly in need of it. He was slowly away there and just looked to be learning on the job, not given a hard time by the jockey. I think he can leave that debut form well behind here and run a big race.
3:35 York
The feature on Day 3 is the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes, a Group 1 for the sprinters over 5f.
I’ve landed on FLOTUS (12/1) EW here. She ran a cracker in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot finishing a good third behind Perfect Power and then she backed that effort up with an easy win here at York last time at Group 3 level. She sits prominently and looks to be drawn on the right side of the track with a lovely draw of stall 4. I think she’s a lovely each-way price in what appears to be a weak renewal. It’s certainly not as strong as the Commonwealth Cup was in my opinion.
4:10 York
The one I like is THE FLYING GINGER (22/1) EW. I am hoping the return to the York Ebor meeting can bring her spark back as she’s been disappointing this season. However, she won this race last year off a mark of 86 at a big price and she again returns this season to defend her title at a big price. Due to her disappointing efforts this season, she runs off 4lb lower than last year’s victory. If she’s going to ever bounce back to form, you’d like to think today would be that day.
