ITV RACING TIPS – Haydock, Ascot and Kempton Tips for Saturday 3rd September

Our ITV racing tips for this weekend come from Haydock, Kempton and Ascot and the action gets underway at 1.15pm. As ever, Henry has been through the card and picked his best bet from each race.
Once again we have a new sign-up offer to get stuck into this weekend and this time around it comes from The Pools where you’ll get £20 in free bets when you sign-up and bet £10 on today’s racing.
1:15 Haydock
First up on ITV today is the Ascendant Stakes, a listed race ran over the extended mile.
Just watch NAVAL POWER (1/2) strut his stuff. No bet race, save your money for better races later in the coverage.
1:45 Haydock
The Superior Mile is next up, a Group 3 contest.
I like MARIES DIAMOND (20/1) EW here. The only pace angle in the race, she ran a cracker at this level last time out at York finishing a good third. The second has boosted that form since and I think she’ll get an easier lead today as her rivals will want something to aim at. She’s a nice each way price if the 8 runners remain as I think she’s got her ideal conditions and tactics today.
2:05 Kempton
The first of two races from Kempton is the September Stakes, a Group 3 over 1m4f.
The one for me is GEAR UP (15/2) EW. Joseph O’Brien sends this one over and the form of his victory last time out beating Cleveland a neck reads well in my opinion. He’s an improving 4 year-old who has ran consistent well in decent races all season. Another who likes to sit handy and he may just get first run on the market rivals.
2:20 Haydock
The 2:20 from Haydock is a wide-open handicap over 1m6f.
It’s SPEYCASTER (17/2) EW for me here. The improving 3 year-old ran a cracker last time out in the Melrose as he was slowly away and done well to make up so much ground to finish 4th at the finish. He now comes to this race off the same mark and trainer Ralph Beckett opts for first-time blinkers which can hopefully help him start better and get into a better position early on. I find it hard to see him out the frame under Hollie Doyle.
2:40 Kempton
The 2:40 is the trappy London Mile handicap, another decent betting opportunity for punters.
I do like SPIRIT OF THE BAY (17/2) NAP here. She was an unlucky loser last time out at Sandown going down a short head behind Inviligate. She’s always been a better horse on the AW and she now returns to Kempton where she has two course and distance wins in his record book. Rossa Ryan a positive jockey booking.
2:55 Haydock
Next up, we have the Old Borough Cup, again ran over 1m6f and it loooks a decent renewal on paper.
I like ISLAND BRAVE (16/1) EW here. Winner of this race last season off a higher mark, he ran his best race of the season last time out finishing 4th in a race on Shergar Cup day beaten just over a length. He likes to sit handy like he did when winning this last year, and again I think he should have no problem getting a nice prominent position. They’ll probably go slower than many would want here and that just may catch a few of these out including the favourite Soulcombe.
3:10 Ascot
The first from Ascot is your typical wide-open 7f handicap at Ascot.
The one for me is ARATUS (7/1) EW. He ran his best race of the season in a similar contest here behind Fresh last time out beaten just over 2l despite being on what looked the slowest part of the track. Stall 1 could go either way but this horse is very talented and will want a race of this nature very soon. Hopefully Kevin Stott can get him settled early as he can be quite keen, if he does, I think he can run a big race here.
3:30 Haydock
The 3:30 race is the feature of the day, the Group 1 Betfair Sprint Cup Stakes over 6f.
The one for me is EMARAATY ANA (7/1) NB. Kevin Ryan said he’d improve throughout the season after a disappointing spell in Dubai and he’s doing just that. He finished sixth in the July Cup two starts back which was a step back in the right direction before finishing a brave third last time out again at Group 1 level in the Nunthorpe at York. He now returns to Haydock to defend the title he won last year and if he continues to improve throughout the season, he has to be going close in this at the very least.
3:45 Ascot
The final race on ITV is the Lavazza Stakes, another decent handicap, this time over 1m4f.
The selection here is DOUBLE CHERRY (11/1) EW. The Tom Ward charge was an impressive winner at Goodwood two starts back which was followed up by a respectable effort in a competitive handicap at Haydock last time out. He was well backed that day which suggests his homework must be good and he now comes here a fresher horse than most and I think he has scope for further improvement off a current mark of 87.
