ITV Racing Tips for Saturday 5th November from Wincanton, Aintree, Doncaster & Down Royal
12:40 Wincanton
The opener on ITV is at 12:40 and I think LADY ADARE (2/1) can sustain the unbeaten run here. She’s a winner of all four career starts and being only 6, I think she can obviously improve again this season. She takes a decent hold but she’ll get plenty of cover here and the fast flat track looks right up her street.
12:50 Doncaster
The 12:50 is a competitive sprint contest and I’m happy to return to old faithful in SUMMERGHAND (6/1) here. He has been as good as ever this season and has held his form well. He’ll get the strong pace that suits his held up style well here and the stiff finish will help him close late on. He ran a cracker on Champions Day finishing second to Rohaan in the Sprint and he’s a touch bigger than I expected on the back of that in this.
1:01 Aintree
This is a Pertemps qualifier for the Cheltenham Festival cone test so whether these are all trying remains to be seen.
The one for me is JOHNSONS BLUE NAP (7/1). He is thriving at the moment winning his last four starts. He was a comfortable winner at Cartmel back in July last time out and I think he has scope to continue improving. He’ll be ridden to win today I’d like to think and he’s the obvious pace angle in a race that might suit being near the front.
1:15 Wincanton
The selection here is MCFABULOUS (11/10). Paul Nicholls has always been excited about this lad going chasing and it’s easy to see why. He has scope to really improve for a fence and even on hurdles form, he holds the beating of this lot. The quickish ground is a positive for him and he’s one for the multiples in this bonanza day. This flatter track will suit too.
1:30 Doncaster
The one I have landed on here is SOMETHING ENTICING (7/1). He’s a horse who will enjoy the soft ground more than most and he was a well-backed second last time out in a decent race which is encouraging. The fact he was second in this race last year is always encouraging as we often see horses repeat form at this time of year. In a wide open race, I think he’s one of the more solid selections for the Andrew Balding team.
1:50 Wincanton
A competitive handicap as usual and Frodon is an intriguing runner given his Grade 1 form and he does run well fresh.
However, I’ll take him on here with SLIPWAY (12/1) EW here. The Ben Pauling stable is in fine fettle to start the season and I think Slipway definitely has the ability to win a race off his current mark of 133. They’ll go a decent gallop in this as usual and the fact he likes to sit prominently and is proven over further is an obvious plus. I think he can kick on again this season and he’ll do for me in this at a double figure price.
2:11 Aintree
The 2:11 from Aintree is our first look at the Grand National fences this season.
The one for me is LIFETIME AMBITION (9/1) EW. Jessie Harrington sends him over here and her horses have a decent record over this fences. Lifetime Ambition’s jumping can be an asset over these fences and although he’s high in the weights, he ran at a decent level during his novice campaign last season including when second to Gold Cup hope Capadanno last time out. He goes well fresh and the Irish clean up over these sides of the shore these days.
2:32 Down Royal
I think GALVIN (11/10) will take this 3m Grade 1 test. He made an encouraging seasonal reappearance victory beating Run Wild Fred in taken fashion. Kemboy will go quick enough from the front to give Galvin the stamina test to see him run to best effect and with a fitness edge over Conflated, he’ll be tough to beat.
2:45 Aintree
I am happy to go with the proven form over the unexposed sort here and side with BREWINUPASTORM (6/5). He receives 4lb of weight off Langer Dan and arguably the selection ran a career best when bolting up in this last season. This renewal looks weaker and if he runs to form, I think he can take this.
3:00 Wincanton
This years renewal of the Grade 2 Elite hurdle could turn into a speed test and that is why I’ve landed on MILKWOOD (11/2). I think Sceau Royal can be taken on given he’s not getting any younger now 10 and I think Knappers Hill needs further to be seen to best effect. Milkwood will enjoy this ground and he’s a horse that’s always promised to be a very decent hurdler and has strong form throughout his career over hurdles. He won’t lack for fitness having had a run and he just seems the value option in this in my opinion.
3:13 Doncaster
The final race is a competitive handicap but I do like the favourite ISRAR (3/1) here. A real improver for John and Thady Gosden, this 3 year-old will relish the soft ground here. He put up a career best effort last time out when winning decisively over this track and trip and I think he can follow up under similar conditions. He’s the class horse in the race for me.
