Noble Yeats & Croach Rambler the 2023 Grand National Favourites with 16 Horses SCRATCHED from Aintree’s Showpiece
Noble Yeats will look to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Red Rum and Tiger Roll in retaining the Grand National when he lines up in the 2023 renewal at Aintree in April.
Following the latest declarations for the 2023 National, Noble Yeats is at the top of the betting odds with the best odds available 8/1 with William Hill. Any Second Now is the second favourite at 20/1 alongside Corach Rambler and Gaillard Du Mensil.
- Noble Yeats won the race last year, now up 20lb in the weights
- Corach Rambler the favourite after winning at Cheltenham
- Only 4 horses have ever retained the Grand National
- Five of last year’s top 6 all entered again
- 57 horses remain after latest forfeit stage
Noble Yeats the 2023 Grand National Second Favourite
The Grad National takes its tole on horses and that is exactly why it is so hard to win the world’s most famous race twice in a row. There is also the factor that horses go up in the handicap weights so much and Noble Yeats has been given a 20lb rise following last year’s success.
He was 50/1 when he won the race last year but there is no chance of the odds being anything like that this time around, with the bookies already installing Noble Yeats as the 12/1 favourite with the William Hill Grand National offer this year.
There will be a maximum of 39 rivals for the Emmet Mullins-trained reigning Champion but at the latest decs stage, there were still 57 horses entered into the race. These will be whittled down by the final declarations stage on Thursday for the 2023 Grand National, on Thursday April 13th.
Corach Rambler the Grand National Favourite after win at Cheltenham
After winning back to back Ultima Handicaps at Cheltenham, Corach Rambler is now the Grand National favourite at odds of 7/1 with Coral. He is 10lb ‘well in’ at the weights after that win at Cheltenham and he will be a poplar winner after a lot of punters backed the horse to win at Cheltenham and Aintree at big odds. There are also some Grand National ante-post betting slips with Corach Rambler at 33/1 to win the National – that price is long gone now.
16 Grand National Non-Runners at the Latest Forfit Stage
At the latest stage of horses being pulled out of the Grand National, 16 horses have been removed from the race leaving a total of 57 on the list. This will be whittled down to a maximum field of 40 before the off.
Here are the latest 16 horses to be non-runners in the 2023 Grand National:
- Hewick
- Conflated
- Franco de port
- Chris’s dream
- Cilaos emery
- Lord lariat
- Ashtown lad
- Rapper
- Glamorgan duke
- Pencilfulloflead
- Happygolucky
- Ga law
- Remastered
- Farclas
- Threeunderthrufive
- Death duty
Five of Last Year’s Top Six to Run Again
As well as Noble Yeats, Any Second Now (2nd), Delta Work (3rd), Fiddlerontheroof (5th) and Longhouse Poet (6th) could all line-up at the start of the 2023 Grand National this time around. These horses all ran really well last year and Delta Work was one of the mast tipped horses in the Grand National tips before the race. This will probably be true again, especially if he wins the Cross Country race at Cheltenham again – just as Tiger Roll did before winning back to back Grand Nationals before being denied the chance of the hat-trick by the pandemic.
Longhouse Poet is best odds 25/1 to win the 2023 National at Aintree, Any Second Now is the 20/1 second favourite to go one better than last year and win the race and Fiddlerontheroof is 50/1 with the bet365 Grand National free bet – the same price as Noble Yeats was when winning the race 12 months ago.
When are the 2023 Grand National Weights Published?
The final weights for the 2023 Grand National will be published from Aintree on Tuesday 21st February. This will determine what weight each horse who runs in the Grand National will carry, even if they win a race between now and then or are due to go up in the weights after the National.
The highest weight a horse can carry in the Grand National is 11st 10lb and the lowest weight is 10st 2lb. It is likely that Noble Yeats will be towards the top of the weights for the 2023 race, along with Delta Work, who is expected to be top weight.
When are the Grand National Declaration Stages?
A field of 85 stood their ground at the latest stage of Grand National declarations on Tuesday 7th February and the next updated list of runners will be confirmed on Tuesday 7th March, three weeks after their weights are published.
After that, there is another forefit stage on Tuesday 28th March before final entries are confirmed on Monday 10th April. We then wait for final declarations on Thursday 13th April where the top 40 best horses will be confirmed as the 2023 Grand National runners.

Noble Yeats: Your Questions Answered
-
Noble Yeats was 50/1 to win the Grand National last year, meaning anybody who bet £10 on him would have won £500.
-
Noble Yeats is currently the 12/1 favourite to win this year's Aintree Grand National.
-
It is very difficult for a horse to win a Grand National twice, only three horses have ever done it but Noble Yeats is only a young horse and could repeat his 2022 victory in the 2023 race. He will be much higher in the handicap though after winning the race 12 months ago, which makes it much more difficult.
-
Last year, Noble Yeats was number 28 in the Grand National. He will be a much smaller number this year because the lowest numbers have the biggest weight so he is likely to be number 1, 2 or 3 for the 2023 National.
