Glorious Goodwood Day 2 Betting Tips for Wednesday 2nd August 2023
Glorious Goodwood 2023takes place this week and ahead of each day of the 5-day summer festival of racing, we will have betting tips and a preview for every single race from @RacingToby1.
You can follow Toby on Twitter and find all of his Glorious Goodwood 2023 betting tips on this page. The Wednesday card gets underway at 1.50pm and the eight race card runs all the way through to 5.35pm. The big race on day 2 of Goodwood is the Sussex Stakes.

1:40 – Amleto (9/4) – Win
A brother to Sea Of Class, has improved every run and a further step up in trip will help, Haggas ran Soulcombe in this race last year who went on to great things and this could be another good middle/long distance horse to go to war with in future. He won’t well LTO when well backed and the 2nd won on Monday giving the form a boost. He’s against some experience rivals but could be let off lightly on handicap debut.
2:25 – Matilda Picotte (9/1) – Each Way
If Mawj or Tahiyra turned up here they’d be short-priced favourites. Matilda Piccote finished 3rd in the Guineas with a range of these and better horses in behind. You can forget her run over ground far too quick LTO, she has been ultra-consistent throughout her career and this intermediate 7f with cut in the ground should be exactly what she’s after.
3:00 – Kylian (15/8) – Win
He was well backed on his first couple starts but unable to get the job done but what he showed at Sandown last time was pure class and probably what connections expected all along. He probably would have ended up in better company before now had the beginning of his season started better, but he’s here now and I expect him to take all the beating in what looks like a shoot out with Royal Ascot winner Big Evs.
3:35 – Paddington (1/2) – Win
The Aidan O’Brian superstar has wiped the floor with every opponent since his debut, a fine win against Emily Upjohn proved his class beyond all doubt. Inspiral is a worthy adversary but being a 3yo he receives weight all round, given his versatility and manner of victories even at such a short price I cannot see the point in taking him on with only 2 places on offer. He’s one for the multiples or just sit back and enjoy his incredible 3yo season so far.
4:10 – Juniper Berries (13/2) – Each Way
I’m not sure we will find a ‘Platinum Queen’ like we did in last year’s renewal but this is a competitive conditions stakes. The selection was a winner on debut followed by a good 2nd to Relief Rally then 4th at Royal Ascot, this top-rated filly seems to have been underestimated in the market. She’s a good each-way price and I can’t see her finishing out of the frame, she’s ground versatile for a trainer that’s good with her juveniles I’m expectant of a big run.
4:45 – La Isla Mujeres (4/1) – Each Way
Ralph Beckett is brilliant with his fillies and mares, along with his current 30% strike rate and a filly that won by 7 lengths on handicap debut, what’s not to like. He won this race last year with State Occasion and will no doubt be looking to do so again. Another tightly packed competitive handicap in what is a great week’s racing.
5:20 – Harry Magnus (10/1) – Each Way
Twice a winner earlier in the season, he looked to be a 3yo going places. However, a couple of slow starts haven’t helped recently. I still think there’s room for improvement off his current mark, Buick back in the saddle and will handle any cut in the ground. Rhoscolyn hasn’t won in a long time but is dangerous down at this rating and would have to be feared but the price doesn’t appeal.
