Glorious Goodwood Day 5 Betting Tips for Saturday 5th August
Glorious Goodwood 2023 takes place this week and ahead of each day of the 5-day summer festival of racing, we will have betting tips and a preview for every single race from @RacingToby1.
You can follow Toby on Twitter and find all of his Glorious Goodwood 2023 betting tips on this page. The Saturday card gets underway at 1.50pm and the seven race card runs all the way through to 5.20pm. The big race on day 5 is the Steward’s Cup at 3.35pm.

1:50 – Live In The Moment (9/1) – Each Way
A couple of 2nd places this year mixed with a few poor performances and it’s been a long time since his last win, however he has won twice on soft ground which he hasn’t had in a long time and a talented 7lb claimer to aid the cause. The form of his Doncaster 2nd has been well franked and if finding that form again after a short break he’s entitled to go close.
2:25 – HMS President (8/1) – Each Way
He has been a mode of consistency since a poor run in this race last year, he has won here to it’s of no concern. With the exception of Sweet William I don’t feel that the progressive 4yos are as much of a danger as they were last year. This is probably his ideal trip and will handle any underfoot conditions, therefore I’m hopeful of a good run.
3:00 – Luisa Casati (8/1) – Each Way
Free Wind is the worthy favourite and it would be no surprise were she to bolt up against this field. There is definitely Value in Luisa Casati to place and even go on to win, she handles ground with cut and won a Listed race here staying on strongly 2 starts back. She didn’t run badly in a Group 2 LTO on ground that would have been too quick.
3:35 – Chairmanoftheboard (16/1) – Each Way
One of the best sprint handicaps all season, Orazio is once again favourite and rightly so but there are so many variables in this race it’s worth a shot at a bigger price. The selection slots in here at the bottom of the weights, he actually won over c&d on debut in 2018 beating the once 116 rated Sir Busker by 8 lengths (random fact) he’s had excuses for a few runs this season and I’m hoping this has been the target given he has won some good handicaps through the years off higher marks.
4:10 – Chartwell House (11/2) – Win
I tipped Sophia’s Starlight earlier in the week so she would be a bittersweet winner after her 2nd. But Chartwell House, he was slammed by the handicapper after his romp at Haydock but he proved LTO that there was still potential off this mark. I hold the winner in high regard and this is no harder, giving him a good chance in this race.
4:45 – Individualism (11/4) – Win
There is not much to go on in this maiden but Individualism ran a good race on debut and is well related, out of Too Darn Hot and the Dam of Subjectivist. A great mix of speed and stamina, he will have learnt a lot from his debut and can run another strong race here. A couple of interesting newcomers but none hugely of note on paper.
5:20 – Lose Your Wad (16/1) – Each Way
What better way to end the week than losing your wad! He outrun his odds in the Dee Stakes at Chester which probably didn’t help his handicap mark but he’s been dropped 6lbs since. He has form on a variety of ground, can struggle to settle but will find it easier in amongst a big field here. Also worth keeping an eye on Loyal touch, the London Gold Cup form his red hot but he has to bounce back from a below par performance LTO.
