1:50- Nostrum (11/8) Win

A disappointing 2nd at Goodwood can probably be excused due to the soft ground and was relentless at Newmarket before that. He takes on his elders for the first time which is always a challenge but these aren’t the best of the older horses and with his weight allowance should be tough to beat. Jimi Hendrix would be my outsider angle into the race after his dominant win in the Royal Hunt Cup.

2:25 – Davideo (9/1) EW

Lordship has gone up 20lbs for his 3 wins this season, he’s the worthy favourite but you have to wonder if the most recent 9lb hike has caught him. Davideo went far too quick at Royal Ascot and duly paid the price, he returned to form with an easy win at Newmarket last month, Dettori takes the ride and this Son of Galileo has a St Leger entry so you can only assume this distance will bring out the best in him.

3:00 – Kinross (7/4) Win

An easy winner of this race last year, he is a 7f specialist and ground versatile I think he is probably the best bet of the week. He beat the re-opposing Isaac Shelby at Goodwood last time and I can’t see that form being reversed. The biggest danger is perhaps the Mare, Sacred, she too is a specialist over the distance and waits for these top Group Races but can often find one too good.

3:35 – Scampi (12/1) EW

Sweet William officially 4lb well in after his penalty for winning at Goodwood, he’s never finished outside the first 2 and is consistent as they come, a very worthy favourite albeit short for a race like the Ebor. But Scampi is the horse I want to be on, a good winner here over 1m4f earlier in the season, he’s performed with credit in every race since including LTO when pulling 12 lengths clear of third, he runs as if this trip is no problem, he needs a strong pace to aim at and he can scythe through them in the latter stages.

4:10 – Gale Force Maya (10/1) EW

A 3 time course and distance winner including a listed race last season, and a 3rd in a Group 3 two starts back. She has to be feared in this contest, it’s a deep field but she knows how to get her head in-front and shouldn’t be far away. Last year’s winner Summerghand is 5lb higher than when winning after his close 2nd in the St. Wilfred but can sometimes be the subject of hard luck stories.

4:45 – Sketch (12/1) EW

Purosangue finished a neck behind Big Evs who takes his place in the Nunthorpe which could looked incredible by 3:40 on Friday. Marquand is ride Sketch rather than a Haggas horse which is unusual, he partnered him on debut but not in the Richmond. The ground certainly went against him and the form of his debut looks good now and he routed them, there could be more to come now back on better ground and rated as good value versus the short priced favourite.

5:20 – Oviedo (9/1) EW

A typically competitive handicap to end the week, Oviedo ran with credit in a listed race LTO he much prefers quick ground which he should get here, his mid-field finish at Royal Ascot is also some of the best on offer in this field. Have Secret chased home an emphatic winner at Goodwood and escapes without penalty despite being best of the rest and would be a close 2nd in my opinion.
