York Tips for Day 2 of the 2024 Ebor Festival on Thursday 22nd August
Day 2 of the 2024 York Ebor Festival takes place on Thursday 22nd August and we have five betting tips starting with the 1.50pm race, with all races live on ITV Racing.
1:50 York
The opener on Day 2 is the Group 2 Lowther Stakes over 6f for the 2 year-olds.
I have landed on BETTY CLOVER (11/1) EW here for the Eve Johnson Houghton Stable. She’s a consistent sort who comes here on the back of a career-best effort on her first try over 6f when beaten a neck by Simmering at Newmarket. Simmering has since won a Group 2 over in France so that form looks pretty strong on paper. Betty Clover has winning form here at the track too albeit over 5 but I do think 6f will bring more out of her.
2:25 York
The 2:25 from York is the Premier Yearling Stakes. Again, a race for the 2 year-olds over 6 furlongs.
I think ARIZONA BLAZE (3/1) NAP can defy top weight and land this. He brings a strong level of Group 1 form to the table running against all the right horses and holding his own. This is a significant drop in class and his prominent racing style will be well-suited to the track. Things should be pretty straightforward from stall 4 and I’d be disappointed if she’s beaten against this lot despite giving away weight.
3:00 York
Next up at 3:00, we have a typical York competitive handicap over the mile.
I think NEW IMAGE (7/1) EW looks a really solid each-way selection here. He has strong handicap form this season and is progressing throughout the season. He hasn’t beaten out the frame in 8 starts and he comes here on the back of a win last time out at the Shergar Cup meeting last weekend. That was his first run over a mile and he relished every yard getting up close to home. Oisin Murphy takes the ride today which is encouraging and he looks sure to run a big race for a yard that excels in these mile handicaps.
3:35 York
The feature on day 2 is the Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks over the 1m4f trip.
I’ve landed on YOU GOT TO ME (9/2) here for the Beckett team who looks the value in the market. She was a good winner from the front last time out in the Irish Oaks seeing off the re-opposing Content. That was a tactical affair and I can see this being a similar race with the selection the only real pace angle. York is a track that can favour the front runner and there is potential for a strong tail wind which will only help her. Ralph Beckett thrives with his fillies and 3 year-olds have a strong record in the race. She will be a straightforward ride for Hector Crouch and she’ll prove tough to pass again here I’m sure.
4:10 York
The final race on ITV comes up at 4:10 and it is the Galtres Stakes, a listed contest over 1m4f.
I think KARMOLOGY (17/2) EW looks sure to run her race for the Karl Burke team and looks a solid each-way alternative to the favourite. A winner here at York two starts ago when showing a willing attitude to fend off her challengers close to home, she backed that effort up with a fine second at listed level when we last seen her back here at York last month. She brings plenty of experience and this prominent racer will be well suited to the tail wind we touched on earlier. She’s hard to knock and although she’s more exposed than some of her rivals, the price certainly compensates for that in my opinion.
