Horse Racing Tips – Saturday’s ITV Tips from Doncaster & Lingfield

Despite Cheltenham being called off due to the weather, ITV will hopefully still have good quality racing from Doncaster and three races from Lingfield make up the rest of the TV coverage this weekend.

We get underway at 1.30pm where Shishkin will be far too good for this opposition so our real ITV Racing tips begin in the 2.05pm at Doncaster.

1:30 Doncaster

The first race live on ITV is a novice chase and it will be all about SHISHKIN who is a class above his opposition and will be expected to win this comfortably before heading to the Arkle on the opening day of the Cheltenham Festival.

 

2:05 Doncaster 

The 2:05 from a Doncaster is a Grade 2 Mares hurdle race run over 2m. Floressa heads the market for Nicky Henderson but I think she definitely prefers a sounder surface. She has strong form and is proven over further but she can be taken on at the price on today’s ground.

The one I like is MARIES ROCK. Nicky Henderson’s other runner here was 3 from 3 prior to picking up an injury which left her on the sidelines for a while. She went off a warm favourite on return but could only manage 7th that day. However, I think she’ll have needed that run after a long break and her previous wins were on soft ground so I have no ground concerns for her. She was highly thought of and I still think she could be very good.

 

2:20 Lingfield

After the loss of Cheltenham, it’s the AW track of Lingfield for the rest of the ITV action away from Doncaster and the 2:20 race is a 6f handicap.

The one I like here is POWER OVER ME (NB). He’s been so impressive winning his last three starts well. He hosed up here at Lingfield last time out on Sunday and I personally don’t think the handicapper has caught up with him yet. It’ll take a well-handicapped one to beat him and I don’t see one in this line-up.

 

2:40 Doncaster 

The 2:40 contest at Doncaster is a gold trial race for the Albert Bartlett Novices Hurdle at Cheltenham in March and we have a wide open renewal here with plenty of runners which is nice to see.

The one I’ve landed on is PATS FANCY. He was a good second last time out at Cheltenham in a Grade 2 contest where he was doing all his best way at the end of the race. This will be a greater test of stamina as they went a crawl last time out and that will suit. He won his start prior to that well on heavy ground and the second that day has won well since so the form has substance. I expect a bold show.

 

2:55 Lingfield 

It’s back to Lingfield next for another handicap, this time only five go to post for the 1m4f contest.

The one I like here at the prices is RENARDEAU. This horse has really strong form here at Lingfield which including three victories. He is back down to his last winning mark and I expect him to go well in what appears a wide open contest for a 5 runner affair. PJ McDonald takes the reigns which is a good jockey booking.

 

3:15 Doncaster

The feature of the day comes up at 3:15 and it is the Sky Bet Chase ran over 3m. Cap Du Nord heads the market as Christian Williams bids to win this race as a trainer after winning it as a jockey on Big Fella Thanks. He is sure to go well and is a worthy favourite.

However, I like ONE FOR THE TEAM (NAP) here for the Nick Williams team. This horse has been running good races in Graded contests and now enters a handicap off what I believe is a very lenient mark. Nick Williams has been in great form of late and jockey Tom Scudamore always tends to ride this type of race well as he proved when winning the Ladbrokes Trophy on Cloth Cap. I am hopeful he’ll get a handy position early doors and get One For The Team jumping well. If that’s the case, he’ll prove very tough to beat in my book.

 

3:30 Lingfield 

The final race from Lingfield on ITV is 3:30 and it is a 1m handicap.

The one for me here is ATHEEB who is still unexposed and has potential to go onto bigger and better things in due time. A lot of his rivals are exposed and we know where they’re at. I think he’ll come on for his recent stable debut and better will be expected today. Rossa Ryan is a jockey I really like and it’s encouraging to see he takes the ride today.
