Aintree Day 3 Lucky 15 Tips for Grand National Day – £1 Lucky 15 Returns £2841

1:55 Aintree
Our first selection is in the Grade 1 Mersey Novices Hurdle over 2m4f.
I like CALDWELL POTTER (5/2) in this. I like the fresh angle coming here having skipped Cheltenham in favour of this. He was a Grade 1 winner for previous connections before Christmas over 2 miles but looks sure to relish this step up to the intermediate trip today. He’ll handle the ground and I think he should be favourite. Brighterdaysahead could be very good but she was disappointing at Cheltenham and she priced up on her hype rather than what we’ve seen in my opinion.
2:30 Aintree
Our second selection on Grand National day comes up in the 2:30, a handicap chase over 3m1f.
The selection is THE KING OF RYHOPE (5/1). I have no doubt he’s a better horse than his current handicap mark of 137 and given connections, it’s likely he’s been laid out for this today. He’s lightly-raced given he’s 8 years of age now and a race of this nature will suit his strong travelling style well. I think this trip is what he wants on a flat track like Aintree and the more the ground dries out the better his chance I’d say. He travelled into the race last time out at Ascot at Grade 2 level like the winner coming to the last before making a mess of it. Compensation awaits today.
3:05 Aintree
The next selection comes in the Grade 1 Liverpool Hurdle over an extended 3m.
It is CRAMBO (15/2). He’s still unexposed and was progressing well before disappointing at Cheltenham last time out in the Stayers Hurdle. I’m happy to forgive one bad run and I just don’t think the track suited him. Back on a flat track here he can go close. He was an impressive winner two starts back winning at Grade 1 level at Ascot and back on a more conventional track, he can resume his progress here. He will handle any ground and he’s arguably running here against veterans and handicappers.
4:00 Aintree
The 4:00 is the big one, the Grand National.
It’s I AM MAXIMUS (15/2) for me. Trained by the best trainer in Willie Mullins, ridden by the best jockey in Paul Townend, that is always a good starting point. If there is any horse that is capable of running at Grade 1 level next season, it has to be this horse for me. He was a good winner of the Irish National under the same jockey last year proven he can handle a race of this nature. He’s definitely improved further this season. He was a good winner last time out in a Grade 3 at Fairyhouse and that should have put him spot on for this. The ground will hold no fears and although his jumping can be sketchy, he’s got the right man on board and these fences aren’t what they used to be in terms of difficulty.
