Boxing Day Horse Racing Tips from Kempton and Wetherby live on ITV Racing
The Boxing Day racing features the King George VI Chase and Henry has picked out his betting tips for each of the live ITV races from both Kempton and Wetherby.
Things get underway at 1.20pm and you can see our preview and prediction for each race below.
1:20 Kempton
The 1:20 from Kempton is a Novice Handicap Chase over 2m4f. It’s a trappy affair with plenty of unexposed chasers in the line-up.
I’m happy to chance YOUR DARLING EW (12/1) at a price here. A horse Ben Pauling has always held in high regard he bolted up on Chase debut at Huntingdon and looked a horse going places. He disappointed last time out at Aintree but he just didn’t look as comfortable going left-handed. I think he’s capable of going close off this mark and the team are in flying form at the moment.
1:55 Kempton
The 1:55 race from Kempton is an intriguing renewal of the Kauto Star Novices Chase and it appears to be an exciting match between Bravemansgame and Ahoy Senor.
I think BRAVEMANSGAME (10/11) will win this. I think his jumping is an asset and I think that will be the difference. The pair are closely matched but I just worry Ahoy Senor will make mistakes which he may not get away with at this level.
2:10 Wetherby
The only race away from Kempton comes from Wetherby and it’s the Rowland Meyrick Handicap Chase over the 3m distance.
The one for me is EMPIRE STEEL NAP (11/2) for the Sandy Thomson stable. He was a good second behind the improving Strictlyadancer on his seasonal debut at Haydock in a race where the front two pulled well clear. He will come on for that effort and I don’t think we’ve seen the best of this unexposed 7 year-old yet.
2:30 Kempton
The 2:30 race is the Christmas Hurdle over 2m. A Grade 1 in name but it’s certainly a weak renewal of the race.
I’ll chance NOT SO SLEEPY NB (3/1) to steal this from the front. He dead heated with Epatante last time out at Newcastle and I think the price difference today is far too big. Not So Sleepy is likely to go off quicker today and they may just not get to him. Epatante appears to be slowly on the decline and she’s been beaten in this race before at odds on.
3:05 Kempton
The feature comes up at 3:05. The Grade 1 King George VI Chase over 3m and it’s certainly a Christmas cracker this year. It’s a wide open renewal and there is some exciting stars lining up this year.
My selection is CHANTRY HOUSE (9/2). A horse on the upgrade he appears to be improving with every run. A winner of the Marsh Novices Chase over 2m4f at Cheltenham, he then went onto to win at the Aintree Festival too albeit, he wasn’t at his best. He returned in a Micky mouse affair at Sandown when beating The Big Breakaway by 37l in a duel I was impressed with his jumping that day and he seemed to relish every yard of the 3m trip. He knows how to win given his record and he’s the horse that could well be on the upgrade while some of his market rivals could slowly be declining. Minello Indo is the obvious danger but I think he’ll be at his best come March.
