Champions Day Tips – Through the Card Betting Tips for Ascot on Saturday 15th October

Champions Day 2022 takes place this weekend and we have been through all six races, previewing each and giving our betting tips. ITV have live coverage of all six races, featuring the Champion Stakes at 4pm.
The action kicks off with the stayers in the Long Distance Cup at 1.25pm and we hope to have Trueshan running but as ever, it will likely be a late decision on his participation due to the ground. The sprinters are up next in the 2.00pm race and 18 runners are set to go to post in a race that has thrown up the occasional shock in the past, especially on the expected slower ground.
The feature race of the day is the Qipco Champion Stakes where Baaeed will look to make it a perfect record of 14 wins from 14 races before heading off to stud and the final race of the day is the big betting race, the Balmoral Handicap over a mile.
See our six Champions Day tips below and the odds for each at the time of writing.

Champions Day 2022 Tips
1:25 Ascot
The opener on Champions Day is the Group 2 Long Distance Cup ran over the 2m trip.
I like TRUESHAN (2/1) NAP here. I think the ground will be soft enough for him to run here and for him to run to the level we expect of him. It was a disappointing effort last time out at Doncaster but the way that race was ran wouldn’t have suited and I’m happy to draw a line through one poor enough effort. Prior to that he won the Northumberland Plate off a mammoth weight before running the best stayer in the world Kyprios close next time. He has won this race for the last two years and he’s clear best on form here. If he returns to form, he wins.

2:00 Ascot
The 2:00 is the turn of the sprinters as it is the Group 1 Champions Sprint Stakes over 6f.
I’ve landed on PERFECT POWER (11/1) EW here. He landed the competitive Group 1 Commonwealth Cup over this course and distance back at Royal Ascot before a couple of slightly disappointing efforts. Last time out wasn’t too bad as he was just over 2l off the impressive Highfield Princess there. He’s been freshened up since and Richard Fahey continues on fine fettle. I think the double figures prices available make him a great bet back here with extra places available with most bookmakers.
2:40 Ascot
Next up is the turn of the fillies and mares as we have the Group 1 Champion Fillies and Mares Stakes over 1m4f.
The one for me is SEA LA ROSA (6/1) EW. She is the real improver in here and she’s had a fine season. A winner on her last three starts including an impressive victory last weekend at Longchamp, she’s certainly on an upward curve. She’s proven over further and they’ll like go a decent gallop here which is bound to suit. As long as this doesn’t come too soon, she’ll do for me.
3:20 Ascot
The 3:20 is the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, another Group 1, this time over the round mile.
Inspiral is the one to beat but the prices aren’t very appealing. I’ve landed on JADOOMI (8/1) EW here. He’s the unknown quantity here really as we don’t really know where his ceiling lies at this stage. A winner on all three starts this season, he’s certainly improving and any rain that falls will hold no fears. He likes to sit handy so he may just get first run on some of his market rivals and I think he’ll hold on for a place here minimum.
4:00 Ascot
The 4:00 from Ascot sees the final race of Baaeed as he goes in the Group 1 Champion Stakes over 1m2f to try and end his career unbeaten with yet another Group 1 victory.
Surely ADAYAR (5/1) EW is a bet to nothing here. You’d expect Baaeed to win of course but Adayar is around the 5/1 mark with three places available each-way. Adayar is the toughest opponent Baaeed has ever faced and I think he’s comfortably the second-best horse in this line-up. Therefore, I’d recommend a small each-way bet. He’s proven his well-being with a comeback victory and obviously comes here fresher than most.
4:40 Ascot
The trickiest race to solve comes up at 4:40 and it is the Balmoral Handicap over the straight mile.
A wide open affair, I’ll go with SYMBOLIZE (14/1) EW here. I think he definitely has a race in him off this current mark. Put a line through last time out as he ran on the worst part of the trick. With a bit of luck, he’ll be on the right side today. Second in this race last year, we know how well he operates over this course and distance and he’s definitely going to win one of these soon enough off a mark of 102. Hopefully today is that day.
