The first selection comes in the Brown Advisory Novices Chase. With the ground turning soft I like STAY AWAY FAY. The Albert Bartlett winner from last year will relish this stamina test and I’m sure Paul Nicholls is going to have him spot on for this. He is likely to go from the front similar to The Real Whacker last year and I don’t think Cobden will be hanging round. He wears first-time cheekpieces to help him be more switched on early on in the race and I don’t think Cobden will have an issue getting the front. He has festival form and strong recent form and is bound to go close.

 

2:50 Cheltenham

The Coral Cup is a wide-open handicap and the one I like is DODDIETHEGREAT. He sneaks in at the bottom of the weights and despite being 8 years of age, he’s arguably open to more improvement. He won his first four starts before finishing a decent second here at Cheltenham back in December on similar soft ground. His last run was in the competitive Betfair Hurdle where he stayed on eye-catching to finish a never nearer 4th. That was over 2m and this step up in trip looks the right move. 

 

4:50 Cheltenham

I like HARPERS BROOK in this. He’s a very talented horse that obviously has his quirks. He’s thrown a couple of races away this year pulling himself up on the run-in but he stayed on well enough last time out at Sandown to get his head in front. He’s a strong travelling sort that will enjoy this type of test. He’ll be delivered as late as possible and hopefully the first-time visor helps him with his finishing effort. I have no doubt he has the class to win a race like this if his head is right. The stable are in flying form and he’s a solid contender in my eyes.

 

5:30 Cheltenham

My final selection comes in the finale, the Bumper. It’s a wide-open renewal and is a fantastic each-way race. The one I like is ROMEO COOLIO. Highly thought of after winning his point-to-point in emphatic fashion, he made his debut in a bumper at Fairybouse in January and won well enough. They went a crawl there and I have no doubt he’ll improve an enormous amount for the stronger pace he’ll get in this. The soft ground will suit and I like the booking of Keith Donoghue.
