Cheltenham Day 4 Lucky 15 Each-way Tips – 14/1, 7/1, 14/1 and 7/1 Bets for Friday
Day four of the Cheltenham Festival, Cheltenham Gold Cup Day, features two perplexing handicaps, the County Hurdle and the Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle, as well as the ‘Blue Riband’ event itself, so if we can’t find some value today heaven help us! It won’t be through want of trying, believe me.

County Hurdle (1.55pm)
The McCoy Contractors County Handicap Hurdle (1:55) is nightmarish, from a punting perspective, but the extremely well-bred, but unexposed, 5-year-old Gowel Road (14/1 with Bet365) warrants close inspection. The Flemensfirth gelding still showed signs of inexperience, despite winning readily, at Newbury last month, so a 6lb rise in the weights for that success looks more than fair. He clearly needs to improve on what he’s achieved so far, but that’s by no means out of the question after just four starts. In fact, he’s just the sort of progressive, young horse that we want to be on.
Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle (2.30pm)
As a Grade One contest, the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle (2:30) should, at least in theory, be a little easier to solve. We like the look of former point-to-pointer Alaphillipe (7/1 with Bet365), who proved a revelation when stepped up in distance, and class, in the Grade Two Albert Bartlett Prestige Novices’ Hurdle at Haydock last month. That was his first attempt beyond 2 miles 4½ furlongs, but he won with plenty in hand remains unexposed as an out-and-out stayer.
Gold Cup (3.05pm)
In the WellChild Cheltenham Gold Cup Chase (3:05), Al Boum Photo stands on the cusp of festival immortality but, at much longer odds, it’s hard to escape the chance of another former winner, Native River (14/1 with Bet365). Now an 11-year-old, Native River looked right back to his best when beating Bristol De Mai and last year’s runner-up Santini by 9½ lengths and 7½ lengths in the rearranged Grade Two Cotswold Chase at Sandown last month. Officially, he is rated just 3lb inferior to Al Boum Photo and, with conditions in his favour, he could prove very difficult to pass, as he did when winning the Gold Cup in 2018.
Martain Pipe Handicap (4.50pm)
The traditional gettin’ out stakes, the Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle (4:50), is no easier a puzzle to solve than any of the other Festival handicaps. However, Langer Dan (7/1 with Bet365) could be called the winner of the Imperial Cup at Sandown last weekend some way from home and, even in this infinitely more competitive affair, must have every chance of following up under a 5lb penalty. Still only a 5-year-old, he had caught the eye on his previous start at Market Rasen, on his return to action following wind surgery, and can continue his upward curve.
