Cheltenham November Meeting Day 3 Betting Tips – Sunday 13th November

Supreme Novices' Hurdle tips

The final day of the Cheltenham November meeting gives us six more races to get stuck into and after two strong days of tips so far, @Rideout_Racing is back with another through the card preview.

The first race gets underway at 1.10pm and the last race is a 4pm start, with four of the races also being shown live on ITV Racing. Have a read of the race by race preview below with tips for each race.

Mister Coffey can come of age in the Day Three opener

Day three gets started with a Novices Chase over an extended three miles. This looks an excellent opportunity for Mistey Coffey 7/4 to finally get his head in front over fences. As a second season novice he has plenty of chase experience and was a good second in the Kim Muir at the Festival after nearly being wiped out by a faller early on. Having won off the back of a 250- and 289-day break, he clearly goes well fresh and should enjoy the quicker ground conditions. Henderson has his yard in excellent form and has long held Mister Coffey in high regard. Albert Bartlett third Bardenstown Lad will need to considerably improve in the jumping department whilst Indigo Breeze was firmly put in his place by the promising Banbridge last time out.

Defending champ can defeat the new kid on the block

Some of the top two milers around get a chance to stake their Champion Chase claims in the Grade 2 Shloer Chase. With five runners set to got to post, this looks a match race between Arkle winner Edwardstone and defending Champion Nube Negra 11/8. Due to race conditions, Nube Negra gives 3lbs to Edwardstone and subsequently there is very little to separate the two on paper. Nube Negra has an exceptional record when fresh, beating the likes of Altior off the back of a 323-day break and this race last year after 201 days off. Edwardstone has won off the back of a break before, but he does have the profile of a horse that seems to really thrive on his racing having contested seven last season. With the Tingle Creek three weeks away, connections of Edwardstone may have one eye on that, whilst Nube Negra will surely be put away to keep him nice and fresh. Both Sizing Pottsie and Daly Tiger have gone forward in the past so I would hope there is pace in the race. If Nube Negra gets a pace to run at, I would fancy him to defend his crown. At the prices he looks the bet in the race.

Side with local trainer in marathon chase

The Jewson Handicap Chase over a stamina sapping three miles and three furlongs is next on the card. Fantastikas looks sure to go well for team Twiston-Davies but at the prices I’ve decided to take a chance on Slipway 10/1 for trainer Ben Pauling. With just the 10 starts under rules he is a relatively lightly raced seven-year-old who relished a marathon trip when putting in a career best performance to win over three miles and six furlongs at Perth in April. The handicapper but him up 10lbs for that win but he should thrive on the good ground underfoot and he’s unexposed over these sorts of trips. Ben Pauling hit the bar with a couple of placed efforts on the opening day but that did tell us that is string are good order. If Slipway returns in similar form, I think he can go well for his local trainer who does well at the track.

Two against the field in 36th running of the Greatwood

Thousand Tears has been subject to a big antepost gamble in this years Unibet Greatwood Handicap Hurdle and with form figures of F340U the money is surely talking. For what he has achieved, he is a fairly uninspiring price now and I would favour Dads Lad 11/2 at the top of the market. Sent over for a handicap chase at the October meeting Dads Lad cruised into contention before gamely outbattling the inform Effernock Fizz. That run came off a mark of 135 and he drops back down to a mark of 128 for this extremely valuable hurdles contest. He clearly enjoys a sound surface which he gets here and I don’t believe this is a particularly strong renewal. I like both Alan King runners, Nina The Terrier and Harbour Lake but I do think both may be suited to a step up in trip.

With plenty of places on offer, the other I couldn’t ignore was top weight I Like To Move It 15/2 for Nigel Twiston-Davies. Given his size and scope I thought he was nailed on to go novice chasing this season so the fact he rocks up here off top weight is surely a sign of confidence. With two wins over course and distance to his name we know he enjoys the demands of Cheltenham and goes well on a sound surface. As touched upon earlier, this wouldn’t look a particularly strong renewal and his Betfair Hurdle second looks the standout piece of form in the race. It will be no easy task giving a stone to Dads Lad but I do think he’s potentially a good bit better than his mark of 142 and could be a graded horse further down the line.

Springwell can be Supreme in an interesting trial

The penultimate race of the day is the Grade 2 Sky Bet Supreme Trial over an extended two miles. Iberico Lord is an interesting newcomer for his powerful connections, whilst smart flat performer Father Of Jazz is pitched in at the deep end for team Skelton. Fennor Cross looks a solid option having proven his liking for Cheltenham with a taking success last month. He looks sure to run his race, but I can’t get away from Springwell Bay 3/1 who strikes me as a horse with a very big engine. Second behind the smart Adamantly Chosen in a Punchestown Bumper back in 2021, he was visually awesome when bolting up on stable debut for Jonjo O’Neill. Sent over hurdles for his debut at Carlise, he was clearly learning on the job and was novicey throughout. He was briefly shaken up after the last and really powered through the line. The form of that race is only okay with the placed horses going on to place again but Springwell Bay left the impression that he is a horse with a sizeable engine and visually shaped as though he would relish coming up the hill.

Take a chance on Slopes in the lucky last

The final race of Cheltenham’s November Meeting is a Listed Bumper over an extended two miles. As is the nature of bumpers, plenty of these are extremely unexposed so a case can be made for plenty. I’ve come down on Gentle Slopes 14/1 for trainer Milton Harris. He looked a fine specimen in the pre parade ring before finishing fifth in the bumper at the October meeting. Encanto Bruno and Strong Leader finished first and second that day in what I thought looked a pretty useful bumper. The race was a bit of farce with nobody wanting to lead and they subsequently crawled round and sprinted up the hill. As a big galloping type it was hardly surprising to see Gentle slopes unable to quicken at a crucial stage and stay on well up the hill. He was well supported that day and connections rate him highly. Harry Cobden is an eye-catching jockey booking and I just hope they go a better gallop this time around.
