1:30 Chester
The 1:30 race starts proceedings on ITV on Day 2 and it is a trappy 5f handicap sprint race.
Michael Appleby is a trainer in fine fettle and I think he can have the winner here with NIGHT ON EARTH (11/2). He ran a decent race at Newmarket last time out finishing third when attempting to complete the hat-trick. He’s a prominent racer so Chester should suit him better and he’s a previous course and distance winner here at the Roudee. Jockey Benoit De La Sayette takes 7lb off which is another bonus.
1:50 Worcester
The one jumps race today comes from Worcester and it is a handicap chase over 2m4f.
The one for me is PLANNED PARADISE (13/2) NAP. I’d say he is the least exposed in this line-up and can hopefully show significant improvement now going chasing. He’s a previous point to point winner on two occasions and it’s eye-catching that he appears in a handicap straight away. Trainer Neil Mulholland is going well at the moment and has a good record when teaming up with Sam Twiston-Davies.
2:05 Chester
My selection here is KOY KOY (2/1). Only had the three starts to date, he’s improved for each run. He was an impressive winner at Newbury last time out making all before pulling clear to win by over 6l. That’s perfect for a track like Chester. He has scope to improve further this season. The early market vibes are certainly encouraging that he’s wintered well.
2:40 Chester
It’s listed action next up at Chester and w shave the Dee Stakes over an extended 1m2f.
I’ll be chancing HARROW (9/1) NB here for the Balding team. He’s had two runs this season improving each time which has been the case for plenty of Balding horses. However, it’s the step up in trip that really interests me because I think the extra 2f will bring significant improvement. He was staying on strongly over the mile last time out and looks to be crying out for a step up in trip. He gets that today and he has the fitness edge over some of the rivals. The ground won’t be an issue.
3:10 Chester
The 3:10 from Chester is the Ormonde Stakes, a Group 3 contest over the extended 1m5f trip.
The horse I like is ALBAFLORA (13/8). Ridden by a jockey I expect to have a huge season in Rossa Ryan he’s the classiest horse in this race on all known form and she certainly won’t mind the ground today. She brings solid Group 1 form to the table here and she won first time out last season so she should be ready for this today.
3:40 Chester
The one I like in this is GROUP ONE POWER (14/1) EW. A winner at Epsom last season which is a similar track to here at Chester I think he could run a nice race here at a price. He’s also ran well here at Chester finishing a good second in July 2021. He’s been off the boil on his last few starts but he’s dropped to a lenient mark of 84. As previously mentioned, a lot of Baldings horses are coming on for their first run and he did look in need of it at Chelmsford last month. Hopefully, he’s come forward for that effort and can rewards each way punters here at least.
