Chester Races Betting Tips – ITV Racing Tips for the May Festival 2022
ITV Racing tips for day 1 of the Chester May Festival where we usually see some big clues towards the Epsom Derby and other big upcoming races this season.
1:30 Chester
The opener of the Boodles May Festival from Chester is the Lily Agnes Stakes over 5f.
The selection here is STAR OF LADY M (6/4) for the David O’Meara team. A very speedy sort who has a lovely draw in stall 2 for this test. A winner of both her two career starts at Redcar she has looked a useful 2 year-old. She improved from her debut win and won decisively next time showing a lot of pace early doors before finishing off strongly to win comfortably. She’ll be well suited by this quicker ground on paper so the fact she’s won both starts on soft can be an added positive.
2:05 Chester
It’s more 5f action in the 2:05 but this time it’s a 7 runner handicap.
My selection here is NAVELLO (13/2) for the 1000 Guineas winning trainer George Boughey. Firstly, she has a decent enough draw in stall 4 and she’s proven at this track having won here at this meeting last year. She hasn’t been at her best this year upto now but show now returns to this track off a mark she is more than capable of winning off if putting her best foot forward. William Buick has to be considered a really eye-catching booking here as well and the horse will appreciate the quicker ground.
2:40 Chester
The 2:40 contest is listed action for the fillies, the Cheshire Oaks over 1m4f.
I like ABOVE THE CURVE (7/4) NB here and I think she is a good bet for the Epsom Oaks. Joseph O’Brien has started the flat campaign in fine fettle and I was really impressed with the selection when powering clear to win a maiden at Leopardstown last month. It looked like she’d come on plenty for that run and with that experience under her belt, the daughter of American Pharoah can go in again here.
3:10 Chester
The 3:10 race is the Chester Vase Stakes, a Group 3 over 1m4f that will provide is with some Derby clues I’m sure.
It’s hard to get away from NEW LONDON (2/5 – no bet) here. The Godolphin operation can do little wrong at present and this lad has looked a useful sort in winning twice at Newmarket to start his career. He stayed on well over 1m2f last time out suggesting this trip will prove no problem and will arguably bring him on quicker. Tough to beat. One for the accy store.
3:40 Chester
The finale on ITV is a the competitive Deepbridge Handicap over 6f.
The one I’ve landed on here is EVER GIVEN (10/3) NAP. A very useful 2 year-old last season for Tom Dascombe he is now trained by Hugo Palmer who’s moved to Manor House Stables alongside Michael Owen. He likes to sit handy which is important round Chester and a draw of stall 2 is just perfect. He won first time up last season so obviously goes well fresh and the stable will have him tuned up for this given this is almost like Royal Ascot for the Manor House team. The ground won’t be an issue and he’ll prove tough to peg back I’m sure.
