Doncaster Friday tips

Doncaster’s St Leger Festival continues on Friday 15th September with a total of eight races and we have asked @RacingToby1 to go through the card and pick his betting tip for each race.

The big race comes on Saturday afternoon but the supporting days also have some top class action and the Doncaster Cup takes centre stage on Friday at 3pm. Elsewhere on the card, there are some tricky handicaps to solve and you can see all of Toby’s Doncaster day 2 tips below.

13:15 – Circe – Win

There’s not too much form to go on in this 2yo fillies maiden, but Circe ran a good 3rd on debut and looked like she knew her job in behind a good winner. Even showing that level of form and professionalism could be enough let alone the possible improvement after her first run out. The connections of Lasting Love could have a gauge on the form given they owned the winner so it’s worth keeping an eye on that one in the market.

13:50 – Local Hero (11/2) Win

I loved Phoenix of Spain and his progeny are performing out of their skin, including this lad who ran out an impressive 5 length winner on debut. War Rooms ran a similarly nice race on debut and should also be feared. They’ve both only had one run and could progress any amount here. Aidan sends over 2 horses today, and although Capulet has a bit to find on paper you can never write off a horse for these connections.

14:25 – Kylian (13/2) Win

I’m willing to draw a line through the Gimcrack, he will get similar conditions to his 3rd at Goodwood when he was very unlucky in running not to run down the reopposing Big Evs. He also has a poor run to put behind him in the Nunthorpe. Malc and Inquisitively both ran huge races at Royal Ascot so it is no surprise to see them in amongst the top of the market. Kylian may well need luck in running but I believe he has the ability to win a race of this nature.

15:00 – Coltrane (6/4) Win

Any shade of odds against is a great bet here, I can’t believe he’s not shorter, yes Trueshan will get the rain he so desires but I just don’t think think he’s that good anymore! Sweet William an interesting opponent given his 2nd in the Ebor but does have 11lb to find with the selection.

15:35 – The Goat (3/1) Win

Assuming by this point Doncaster has had plenty of rain, the demolition by The Goat at Goodwood could well be replicated. He isn’t just a mud lover, having form in the book behind Lions Pride and Melrose Winner Middle Earth. He himself didn’t run a bad race in the Melrose and this is definitely easier.

16:10 – Cherry (11/4) Win

Cherry couldn’t have won any easier LTO extending to win by over 6 lengths in testing ground. Before that, she finished 2nd to the winner of the Henry Cecil Listed Race. I think a mark of 88 still very much underestimates her ability and being a 3yo there could still be more to come. Mistressofillusion probably found the trip too far LTO and might be one to watch back in distance.

16:45 – Zip (14/1) Each Way

Very much at home on the slower ground, Zip has won a couple of aw contests this season but could well get his desired turf surface over a course and distance he has won at previously. Baradar is a worthy favourite winning the International Stakes LTO and also handles any cut in the ground but does have to carry top weight in the ground.

17:20 – Succession (11/2) Win

Love it or hate it, Racing league races are some of the most competitive and this fella ran a big race upped to 6f LTO and may have even been an unlucky loser when jumping false ground in the last furlong. He hasn’t been raised for that effort which would suggest he can run another good race here. He broke his maiden with cut in the ground so there should be no problem with todays conditions.
