Dubai World Cup Night Preview and Betting Tips
Billed as the ‘world’s most spectacular race day’, the Dubai World Cup meeting at Meydan Racecourse features five Group One races, culminating with the Dubai World Cup itself, worth over £8.75 million in guaranteed prize money.
See our betting tip for each of the races from Meydan this weekend including the Dubai World Cup and you can get seven free £5 bets to use on the card when you open a new 888Sport account and take advantage of this welcome offer.
12:15 Godolphin Mile (Dirt)
Midnight Legend proved too good for Chiefdom, Tuz and stable companion Golden Goal when winning over course and distance three weeks ago, on his first start since returning to local trainer Doug Watson, and can follow up. He has yet to win at this level, but is 2-2 over a mile on fast dirt here and again looks the one to beat.
Selection: Midnight Legend (5/2 with 888Sport)
12:50 Dubai Gold Cup (Turf)
Godolphin holds a strong hand, but Volcanic Sky led home a 1-2-3-4 for the ‘boys in blue’, albeit only narrowly, in the Group Three Nad Al Sheba Trophy here last month and may be capable of doing so again. That contest was over 1 mile 6 furlongs but, as one of just two distance winners in the field, the Street Cry gelding can put his proven stamina to good use.
Selection: Volcanic Sky (14/1 with Bet365)
1:30 Al Quoz Sprint (Turf)
Space Blues officially has 6lb in hand of his rivals but, while he’s chasing a six-timer, the fact that he’s never won over 6 furlongs rather tempers enthusiasm. Preference, on this occasion, is another Godolphin entry, Final Song, who has run well on all three attempts at today’s distance, including when winning here three weeks ago and is 5lb better off for the 3 lengths she finished behind Man Of Promise on her penultimate start.
Selection: Final Song (15/2 with 888Sport)
2:05 UAE Derby (Dirt)
Godolphin trainer Saeed Bin Suroor has an excellent record in this race and may be able to strike again courtesy of the beautifully-bred filly Soft Whisper. She was beaten favourite in the Saudi Derby at Riyadh five weeks ago and is no better off with the winner that day, Pink Kamehameha. However, she may well improve again for stepping up in distance and, unbeaten at Meydan, looks overpriced.
Selection: Soft Whisper (12/1 with William Hill)
2:40 Dubai Golden Shaheen (Dirt)
Canvasser had only a neck to spare over Good Effort here three weeks ago, but remains unexposed as a sprinter and take another step forward here. Twice a winner over a mile for Roger Varian, he is bred to be suited by further, but has already demonstrated a potent turn of foot over 6 furlongs, which should stand him in good stead off the likely frenetic pace here.
Selection: Canvasser (10/1 with 888Sport)
3:30 Dubai Turf (Turf)
Strictly speaking, Lord Glitters has 7lb to find with Lord North but, with the latter absent since November, may be able to score the third Group One victory of his career. Although now an 8-year-old, the Whipper gelding has looked better than ever at Meydan this winter and has fitness on his side.
Selection: Lord Glitters (10/3 with Betfred)
4:10 Dubai Sheema Classic (Turf)
Officially, Berkshire Rocco has about 10lb to find with likely favourite Chrono Genesis and, although no match for Noor Al Hawa on his reappearance at Doha last month, should strip fitter this time. A return to the form that saw him narrowly denied in the St. Leger Stakes at Doncaster last September could make his current, rather dismissive odds look very generous indeed and he doesn’t have much to find with Mogul, who’s a tenth of the price, on his mile-and-a-half form last summer.
Selection: Berkshire Rocco (33/1 with 888Sport)
4:50 Dubai World Cup (Dirt)
Formerly trained in Lambourn by Clive Cox, Salute The Soldier has officially improved by 12lb since being transferred to Bahrain in January 2020. Now a 6-year-old, he took his form to a new level when recording his first Group One success over course and distance three weeks ago and a reproduction of that performance may well be good enough.
Selection: Salute The Soldier (13/2 with 888Sport)
