Friday’s ITV Racing Tips from Newmarket and York (Friday 9th July)

1:50 Newmarket
The opener on Day 2 of the July Meeting is a 1m2f handicap and it’s a competitive renewal of the race.
The one I like is KING OF CLUBS NAP EW. He is a horse progressing with every run and his second placed effort last time out at Sandown was very eye catching. He was doing all his best work at the end that day so this step up in trip and stiff finish will suit him well I think. Trainer Hughes Morrison is in good form recent operating at a 29% strike rate and his horse is a good each way bet here to start proceedings.
2:05 York
The first of two races from York is a handicap over 1m4f.
I like NOBLE MASQUERADE NB here for the Eve Johnson Houghton team. Still an unexposed sort at the age of 4 he showed significant improvement for the fitting of blinkers when powering clear to win last time out at Kempton. I think a 3lb rise for that win is lenient and that win will hopefully have done his confidence the world of good.
2:25 Newmarket
The 2:25 race at Newmarket is the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes, a Group 2 contest for the fillies over 6f.
My selection here is DESERT DREAMER EW. He won his first two starts here at Newmarket and looked a really good horse in doing so. You can put a line through her Royal Ascot effort as she was drawn on the wrong side of the track that day. She the. bounced back well back here at Newmarket last time out where she was an unlucky second meeting traffic at a crucial stage. Oscula will go hard in front and that will suit Desert Dreamer’s hold up style. She is a cracking each way price in this contest.
2:40 York
The second race from York is a Group 3 race for the fillies over 6f known as the Summer Stakes.
My selection in this is LIGHT REFRAIN. She was a horse going places before a disappointing effort at Royal Ascot. I’m always happy to forgive one bad run and if she can return to the form of her victory and 4th place finishes in May then she has to go very close in this race. The Haggas team continue to bang in the winners and Tom Marquand is a good a jockey as anyone at the moment.
3:00 Newmarket
The 3:00 race is a tricky handicap for punters to get stuck into over the trip of 1m6f. Global Storm heads the market at the time of writing at 5/1.
The one for me is HOCHFIELD EW. He will bounce off the fast ground as long as too much rain doesn’t come. This track can suit a front runner that likes to bowl along and we all know how tough Mark Johnston front runners can be. He is a previous course and distance winner and he was unlucky not to win the Northumberland Plate last time out when finishing a game second. He’s a good each way bet again today.
3.35 Newmarket
The feature race of the day closes proceedings and it is a mouthwatering renewal of the Group 1 Falmouth Stakes. The ground will have an impact on the market and I suspect and I’m hoping we don’t get any rain for my selection.
The selection is PRIMO BACIO. She looked a real superstar when showing an explosive turn of foot last time out at York. Connections decided to skip Royal Ascot due to the ground and that could be a great decision if the ground stays on the quick side for them here. I don’t think we’ve seen the best of her yet and it would be nice for Ed Walker to have another great horse on his hands.
