Glorious Goodwood Day 3 Tips 2021

It’s the fillies’ and mares’ turn to take centre stage on Thursday, in the third and final Group 1 race of the week, the Nassau Stakes.

The supporting card is competitive enough, too, but that should mean there’s some value to be found.

Strictly speaking, Patient Dream is held by King Frankel on their running at Epsom last month, but has since won a lower grade handicap at Windsor and may be capable of reversing the form. The son of Al Kazeem has won on good, good to soft and soft going, so shouldn’t be unduly inconvenienced by recent thunderstorms. By contrast, King Frankel was never travelling when last of ten behind Dubai Honour at Newmarket last time and has questions to answer.

2:25 Unibet Richmond Stakes

Asymmetric only just failed in the Tattersalls July Stakes at Newmarket three weeks ago, but a line through the third horse home that day, Sam Maximus, suggests that Gis A Sub may be capable of beating both of them. The Acclamation colt was only beaten a nose by subsequent winner Bosh on his racecourse debut at York last month and opened his account, in workmanlike style, at Pontefract just over two weeks later. The second, Hellomydarling, subsequently ran creditably in the Prix Robert Papin at Chantilly, so Gis A Sub looks to have a decent shout at rewarding odds.

3:00 John Pearce Racing Gordon Stakes

Third Realm was only fifth in the Derby, but that form already looks better than it did at the time, thanks to the subsequent exploits of the winner and the third, Hurricane Lane, and he looks to have every chance of resuming winning ways. Indeed, the Sea The Stars colt actually beat the Derby winner, Adayar, in the Lingfield Derby Trial, on soft going, in May. With conditions in his favour, he can take full advantage of this drop in grade.

3:35 Qatar Nassau Stakes

Zeyaadah lost her unbeaten record when denied a clear run at a crucial stage in the Cheshire Oaks at Chester in May and failed to stay a mile and a half in the Oaks proper at Epsom the following month. However, she returned to winning ways with a narrow, but comfortable, victory over Technique last month and may be able to build on that effort. A fairly sharp mile and a quarter should suit her admirably.

4:10 Goodwood Racecourse Patrons Nursery Handicap

Windsor Castle Stakes also-ran Robasta opened his account in a 0-90 nursery handicap at Newmarket three weeks ago, on his first attempt over 6 furlongs, and that form has been franked by the third, who subsequently won a small race at Thirsk. The Mehmas colt steps up in distance again here, but his dam, Gilded Truffle, has produced middle-distance winners, so he may well improve for doing so. He needs to, up 3lb in a better race, but still looks one to keep on the right side.
