1:50 – Aggagio (10/1) – Each Way
A 4 time course winner, he will have no issues with the ground given his wins on soft and Gary Moore often likes to aim his dual purpose horses at this festival. The only concern is if he wants this stuff a stamina test but there’s nothing to suggest he won’t stay based on his form. Vino Victrix is of interest at a bigger price if you go back to his staying on 2nd in the Cesarewitch, he could be suited to this test and outrun his odds.
2:25 – Knight (16/1) – Each Way
Of course Nostrum is by far the best horse in this race, however every race so far has been on quick ground, he will obviously face the complete opposite here. Knight on the other hand 8lb to find on ratings but a win on heavy is key, he has a poor performance to put behind him but has been gelded since and hopefully that can eek out enough improvement to at least hit the frame.
3:00 – Awaal (12/1) – Each Way
He has raced in 3 Premier Handicaps this season finishing 2nd 3rd 3rd, The Lincoln defeat in heavy ground was a great performance and was only beaten by the well-treated Migration. He has won on heavy previously and is still relatively lightly raced compared to many of the seasoned handicappers. Eilean Dubh could outrun his odds at a huge price but the ground is an obvious concern.
3:35 – Highfield Princess (10/11) – Win (NAP)
Unlucky not to have a win so far this season, hampered late on by Bradsell in the Kings Stand and then just found flagging late on in the Jubilee after running a few days before. A short break, back to 5 furlongs with soft ground should be everything she needs to get back in the winner’s enclosure.
4:10 – Hamish (4/5) – Win
As always, Hamish is following the weather. A mudlark through and through, it was probably just getting close to his quickest conditions last time hence the short winning margin. He doesn’t face any harder opposition here and barring a drought and extreme heatwave he shouldn’t be losing this race. The lack of runners makes it hard to pick out an each-way shot against the short-priced favourite.
4:45 – Starlust (6/1) – Win
I followed this form line on Tuesday and was duly let down by a short-head, nevertheless, it was a good enough run to have confidence in Starlust to win this race. He carries top weight in this nursery but Connor Planas takes off a handy 5lb. The ground will be an unknown but it will for most, until proven he can’t go on it there’s no reason to assume he won’t.
5:20 – Maso Bastie (6/1) – Each Way
A poor ride looked the culprit for his 3rd LTO with the winner getting a freebie turning in and unable to claw back. However, his win in Soft ground at Nottingham when the front pair finished clear has been well advertised by the runner-up, who ran in a Listed race and then 5th in the Britannia. He will enjoy the underfoot conditions and should find the 12 furlongs in his capacity, providing a good each-way price in a competitive race.
