Glorious Goodwood Day 4 Preview and Tips for Friday 2nd August

Glorious Goodwood tips 2021

1:50 Goodwood

The opener on Friday is the unique test of the extended 2m4f handicap with no stalls included.

The one for me is SUPER SUPERJACK (7/1) NAP who looks to have been laid out for this. The previous course winner ran a cracker in this last season to finish second. He showed signs of life when we last seen him at Ascot finishing 6th in a decent handicap. He definitely has the potential to land this off a falling handicap mark and I get the impression today could be the day he returns to form for the shrewd Olly Murphy yard. Tom Marquand is an eye-catching booking too here.

2:25 Goodwood

Next up we have the 2:25, the Group 3 Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes over the mile.

I don’t think we’ve seen the best of LEAD ARTIST (9/2) NB by any stretch of the imagination and he’s the selection here. This is just his fourth career start, he’s open to significant amounts of improvement. He caught the eye on debut finishing second before going to York and winning a novice race decisively. He then went off a short favourite in listed company when we last seen at Newmarket but could only manage third. I think he’s better than that and similar to Friendly Soul last weekend, I think he can resume progression here. He’ll be able to get a nice position if breaking well from stall 1.

3:00 Goodwood

The 3:00 is the Golden Mile, a trappy handicap obviously over the mile in which the inside stalls are often favoured.

I’ll chance CLASSIC (9/1)EW who if putting his best foot forward is more than capable of landing at this level. He probably should have won two starts ago at Sandown when just failing to reel in the re-opposing Two Tempting. Draw a line through this effort back there when we last seen him as he need fast ground. He will hopefully get that today if we avoid some of the showers and from stall 3, if he can get the luck in running, he looks overpriced. In a competitive race, he’s the one I like.

3:35 Goodwood

The feature on Day 4 is the King George Qatar Stakes, a Group 2 over 5 furlongs.

I think BIG EVS (11/4) can return to winning ways here at a more suitable track. He ran a cracker truth be told when third at Royal Ascot but that stiff 5f isn’t his ideal scenario. He lead for a long way before fading in the final half a furlong to third. This speed favouring 5f of Goodwood is much more his cup of tea as he showed when winning at this meeting last year.
