1:50 Goodwood
The opener on Friday is a tricky handicap over the extreme extended 2m4f trip.
I think CALLING THE WIND (5/1) will be able to defy top weight in this. Often the bridesmaid, he got his head in front last time out in the Northumberland Plate, a competitive handicap. That win would have done his confidence the world of good. He’s proven over these extreme distances and was a winner of this race back in 2021. He’s bound to be bang there.
2:25 Goodwood
Next up we have the Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes, a Group 3 for the 3 year-olds the mile.
Nostrum will be tough to beat here but the Stoute horses haven’t exactly been firing this week, he’s had two favourite comfortably beat. Therefore, I’d chance DOCKLANDS (9/2) who’s on a serious upward curve and we just don’t know how good he is yet. He’s proven on the soft ground which is key and he was a really impressive winner of the Britannia Stakes from the wrong side of the draw last time out at Royal Ascot. He’ll stalk Nostrum and should give him plenty to think about. At the prices, he’s the value.
3:00 Goodwood
The 3:00 race is the Golden Mile, a class 2 handicap over the mile.
It’s TACARIB BAY (9/1) EW for me here. The lower the draw the better here really and stall 4 is ideal for the selection. A solid consistent horse who has always been well thought of. He ran a decent race last weekend when not beaten far finishing 6th in a competitive handicap at Ascot. He was on the wrong side of the track there so that effort can definitely be marked up. He has proven form over 7f so this speedy mile should suit. He’ll be able to obtain a nice early position and looks sure to be bang there.
3:35 Goodwood
The feature on Day 4 comes up at 3:35 and it is the King George Qatar Stakes, a Group 2 for the sprinters over 5f.
It’s LADIES CHURCH (11/1) EW for me here. I think this speedy 5f will suit her well and I like stall 11. A lot of the sprint winners have been drawn on that side of the track. She was a good winner at Naas two starts back and things just didn’t go to plan at the Curragh last time out. I’d be happy to give her another chance on what could be her ideal conditions and race tactics.
