Haydock and Newmarket Betting Tips for ITV Racing on Friday 23rd September
ITV Racing tips for the Friday racing from Haydock and Newmarket including the Rockfel Stakes at HQ and three handicap races from Haydock.

1:30 Haydock
The first of three races from Haydock is a trappy nursery handicap over 5f.
I like ROGUE SPIRIT (9/4) here. A consistent and experienced sort who ran very well in a competitive handicap at York last time beaten just over 3l on handicap debut. That suggests he’s more than capable of this mark. This is a significant drop in class and with useful claimer Connor Planas taken off 7lb, I think he’s definitely the one to beat.
1:50 Newmarket
First up from HQ is the Rosemary Stakes, a listed contest for the fillies and mares over 1m. The 3 year-olds hold a strong record here and hold strong claims again this year.
It’s CRYSTAL CAPRICE (7/2) for me here. A typical Sir Michael Stoute improver who’s won her last three starts progressing well. She finds plenty for pressure which is encouraging given the stiff finish Newmarket has to offer and you’d like to think the improvement hasn’t stopped yet.
2:05 Haydock
Back to Haydock for the 2:05 and it is another wide-open handicap, this time over 7f.
It’s DELOREAN (9/2) for me here. A winner here at Haydock last time out over this trip, the son of Time Test can continue to improve as this is just his fifth career start to date. He’s only up 6lb for that victory here and the soft ground today will be ideal for him whilst it may not suit some of his market rivals. He’s proven over the trip and will arguably improve again for the stamina test on softer ground.
2:25 Newmarket
The 2:25 race is the Princess Royal, a Group 3 for fillies and mares again, this time over the 1m4f trip.
The one for me is ETERNAL PEARL (5/2). Charlie Appleby can do little wrong this week and his filly here has the form in the book here to go very close. A winner on her last three starts, she has the strongest form in the book in my opinion. She can put her experience to use here and complete the four-timer.
2:40 Haydock
The 2:40 race is another decent handicap for punters to try and solve, this time for the stayers over 1m6f.
The ground has come right for DOUBLE CHERRY (8/1) NAP. A real eye-catcher last time out coming from off the pace to finish fourth in a competitive race at Ascot. The first three home all sat close enough to the pace that day. I think the 1m6f on soft ground will prove right up his street and he will do for me here off a mark off 86.
3:00 Newmarket
The 3:00 contest is the Rockfel Stakes, again for the fillies and mares, this time a Group 2 class contest over 7f for the 2 year-olds.
I like COMMISSIONING (5/2) here. She came from off the pace to win in impressive fashion on debut here at Newmarket to power clear and win by over 3l. The form obviously isn’t much but the manor of that victory suggested to me she could be a really good filly for the Gosdens. There is plenty of pace here so similar tactics will be applied. She’ll come on from that debut win and the experience will have done her good. She can improve past the most exposed sorts and take this.
3:35 Newmarket
The finale on Friday’s ITV coverage comes up at 3:35 and it is the Joel Stakes, another Group 2 race but this time over the mile.
It’s POTAPOVA (15/4) NB for me here. The race is full of front runners with Pogo, El Drama, Oscula and Tempus all here. That means they should go fast which will prove perfect for the selection who looks to be held up off the pace. She was impressive at Sandown last time out and can back that up now and give the Stoute stable another winner.
