Horse Racing Tips for Saturday 10th June from Haydock and Beverley

1:15 Haydock

The opener on ITV comes up at 1:25 and it is the Achilles Stakes, a listed contest over the 5f trip.

The one for me is MONDAMMEJ (18/1) EW for the Anthony Brittain stable. He’s well suited by the 5f trip on fast ground especially here at Haydock as he’s won two of his three career starts over this course and distance. He’s drawn in stall when looks a nice position as the high numbers are often favoured here on fast ground. There is plenty of place on up front and the selection likes to come from off the pace. He should get a clear run at it and I’d be hopeful he can hit the frame at least at a nice price.

 

1:50 Haydock

Next up at 1:50 is a 0-95 rated handicap over the 6f distance.

It’s SILVER SAMURAI (8/1) EW for me in this. A winner of this contest off 3lb lower and you can be sure he’d have won it with an extra 3lb on his back. He is another well suited by a fast ground 6f trip and the fact trainer Marco Botti has chose now to opt for first-time cheekpieces gives the impression this may well have been the target for a while. The stable is in decent form and Ben Curtis is riding well.

 

2:05 Beverley 

The first of three races from Beverley comes up at 2:05 and this race is a Conditions Stakes race for the 2 year-old fillies over 5f.

I’d expect MIDNIGHT AFFAIR (5/4) NAP to be very tough to beat here. She looked really promising on his racecourse debut finishing a good second in a decent maiden at Newmarket last month. She was unlucky in the run that day and looked like she’d improve significantly for the outing as she still appeared pretty green when making her challenge finishing strongly to go second. With further improvement very likely, she be tough to beat in my opinion.

 

2:25 Haydock

The 2:25 race at Haydock is a tricky Class 2 handicap over 1m4f.

I’d chance LIVE YOUR DREAM (12/1) EW in this at a decent price. He’s obviously had his problems and we haven’t seen him since October 2021 when finishing well beaten in the Cambridgeshire at Newmarket. However, he has previously been off the track for 500 days+ earlier in his career and managed to win after that break in a decent enough race in which he went off 11/2. The stable are operating at a 25% strike rate recently and the boost of the 2000 Guineas win has obviously helped. He’s a horse that has shown talent in the past and the fact connections are persisting after 600 days+ off the track means he must be showing enough at home.  I’d be happy to chance him today at the price.

 

2:40 Beverley 

The 2:40 race is a wide-open handicap over the extended 7f trip.

It’s UGO GREGORY (7/2) for me here who has a fine record here at Beverley. He likes to go front and he should be able to get there from stall 1 here. He’s currently off a mark of just 68 and connections will be very disappointed if he doesn’t go close off that mark based on his past exploits as he’s previously won off 80 in a decent race at York and 78 here at Beverley.

 

3:00 Haydock 

It’s back to Haydock for the 3:00 race and it’s a race dedicated the great Lestor Piggott, a Group 3 for the fillies and mares over 1m4f.

It’s MIMIKYU (4/1) NB in this for me. I was encouraged by her seasonal reappearance going down by a short head at York last month. She was a big drifter on the day which suggests the run was needed. There isn’t much pace on here and with Mimikyu dropping down in trip, I’d expect her to go from the front and make this is a decent test. She is a winner over this course and distance anyway so I wouldn’t be concerned about the drop in trip. There is no jockey better at setting the correct fractions than Frankie Dettori and he’ll relish this test. The Gosden and Dettori duo can’t do a lot wrong when teaming up with the fillies recently as they shown last weekend when landing a Group 1 double with Emily Upjohn and Soul Sister. I think she is bound to go close here.

 

3:15 Beverley 

The third and final race from Beverley comes up at 3:15 and it is the Two Year Trophy Condition Stakes over 5 furlongs.

It’s FUSTERLANDIA (3/1) for me here. Kevin Stott is riding as well as anyone at the moment and he’s relished the new challenge of riding for Amo Racing. This horse showed a lot of promise when finishing second at Leicester on racecourse debut and coming from the Richard Hannon stable, you’d expect further improvement to follow. He has the stall 1 draw and if he breaks on terms, he’ll get a nice early position and can land this contest.

 

3:35 Haydock 

The final race on ITV is another decent Group 3 race, this time the John Of Gaunt Stakes over 7f.

It’s EL CABALLO (3/1) for me here. He was a really progressive 3 year-old last season winning four runs on the spin before going off favourite for the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot. He disappointed in that and we didn’t see him for the rest of the season which suggests there was an excuse for that effort. He returned as a four year-old at Doncaster in April and it was obvious the run was needed. The ground was a slog that day too which definitely doesn’t suit him. He’s a previous winner at Haydock albeit over 6f but I don’t think they’ll go fast here and his tactical speed could be a huge plus. He has won over 7f elsewhere too on his only start at this trip.
